Am I the only one who thinks it is lame that they keep on bringing up how his new bride is just helping his game so much. On The Golf Channel, Tilghman was saying how Norman would just look at her when the going got tough, and everything changed. Please. If I wanted to hear this kind of drivel and these kinds of back stories, I would watch American Idol and check out celebrity blogs. Stick to the golf or find another player to talk about. No offense to "Chrissy".

Figures...I should have known someone would bring up something about Tiger (or maybe even Phil) into a topic that nothing to do with him. Congrats for fueling the fire and going off topic.

Yea, I'd much rather keep hearing about the phone call between player and immelman - its all about sensationalism on all levels, we need that sexy backstory to keep people tuning in (well not if they are golf fans, but maybe if they have no idea about golf)- I mean maybe she has played a bit of a role in his golf (made him feel young, driven, something) - but I agree, I wish we could go more to golf, but we wont, we are stuck.

They should just go whole hog and add a soundtrack. Eye of the Tiger (even though it has Tiger in the name) for the call from Player to Immelman, and every time Mr Norman looks at his beloved....cue wood winds....why do birds...suddenly appear...

What's wrong with talking about the player's lives? And in this instance, he's been out of the game for a long time and is making a great effort at a comeback.
Sounds to me like you guys are a little jealous of his success and his new wife.....
Or...we could always just hear golf in a monotone voice with no sensationalism or explanations about why a player is feeling good...or bad.

As a lifelong Greg Norman fan I'm pleased to see him in contention after a fine round - albeit any more golf like that can only increase the likelihood of him being involved in another crushing defeat on Sunday evening.
p.s. Lemming's Law clearly states that the number of posts that occur before Tiger Woods crops up in a thread is inversely proportional to the square root of how little the original thread has to do with him in any way shape or form whatsoever.

I'm not a Norman fan and have never been one. But I don't see anything wrong with reporting on his personal life, even if it borders on "dreck." He's going to get what? Ten minutes of coverage compared to 2 1/2 hours of Tiger me this, Tiger me that, Tiger's on my little hat?
I watched the ESPN rebroadcast of the first round play this evening (most of it, on and off, as I was able) and did not see one shot of Norman. I wanted to. He's busting a gut out there and doing quite well at his comeback attempt.
But there was El Tigre, every third frame, coming in with a number higher than Norman's.

I kind of have to agree. I didn't see O'Hair/Paddy/Sergio/Watney/Weir/Cabrera/Mize/Clark/Ogilvy/Singh/Scott hit a SINGLE SHOT (though I only saw 90% of the broadcast), but I saw every single one of Tiger's tap ins. I think I saw Norman hit 1 shot- and a replay of that shot.

Thats because all these players started and finished before the TV live coverage began, you will see these players today, cause they'll be playing during the live coverage or better still watch live coverage from amen corner online and you can see every player coming through there just like i did...........it aint CBS, ESPN or BBC fault that ANGC only allows 3.5hrs of coverage and only of the back nine on thursday/friday........so get off your high horses and just enjoy the golf.......jeez

echo last post.....TV coverage times vs Tee Times.
oh......Tiger.
Sorry, I had not heard his name in a few lines so I had to say it. Trying to test teh Lemming's law mentioned earlier.....though I think it is the inverse of the 3rd root and not square root, though that is only based on my sample size and not the statistical population.
Fret not, today, you will nto see any of Tiger other than them showing replays of his shots. He will be done by the time coverage starts, assumign no weather delays (I heard calls for thunderstorms)
Chrissy was amazing in her day of tennis and was and still is a very, very classy lady. I think it is great to see people so in love like that. Let him feel like a kid. Whatever works.
He is, after all.......The Shark. He was always my favorite, as Tiger is my favorite now (sorry all but I just admire what both of these guys did and are doing in their time).
Long live the shark......the ultimate Sunday...final pairing of Tiger vs. Shark....which animal comes out on top of the food chain in that one? What a Sunday that would be.....a guy can dream.

Like someone said, It's good to see player's doing well, if the inspiration comes from Chrissy or another family member then so be it... He's playing well and he's happy, no different than a caddy kicking his player in the butt when need be... just a pick me up from a different source....

She sure didn't inspire John Lloyd's and Andy Mills' athletic careers
What's with her only getting it on with other name athletes, remember she was also engaged to Jimmy Connors. Wouldn't you have loved to have seen how that marriage would have played out.
Well I hope the Great White Guppy and Chrissy are very happy with each other, only cost them about $100 million to hook up

Well, they do have 2 hours of coverage to fill.
I'd rather have a random comment like Norman / Evert than 6 minutes of Jimmy Roberts on the story behind a tree, or something.

But what a story it would have been though. Sort of an arboreal version of the Odyssey or Beowulf. And with Roberts' gift for a theatrical delivery, complete with dramatic pauses and mock-pained expressions on the emotional bits, it would have had me glued to the screen and hanging on his every word like the children of yore listening to the village elder.
What a shame it never came to fruition.

Let's remember that Golf Channel cannot show any tournament action, so they have to come up with hours of stuff to fill the time. Hence, players wives, etc.
By the way, isn't it a bit silly that after all these years people are STILL upset that Tiger gets more coverage than anyone? It's called ratings. Really...it's not shocking. This will never change until he is carried out feet first many years from now. If a woman managed to get in the field (shocking), that would be covered more. If Craig Stadler put on a dress, it would get covered more than that. Does no one grasp the concept of ratings??? You can deal with it that Tiger is the end-all-be-all or keep right on complaining if you prefer but it's Tiger's world and we are residents. The media fans the flames and we deal with it.

Some of those players actually were playing during the broadcast- O'Hare and Scott for sure. As soon as my research gets over its case of the nonexistings, I'll send them to go check exactly who was still playing at 4 (hint: not just Tiger). They also barely showed ANY REPLAYS of the highlights of these supposedly high profile players, while I got to see 4 or 5 putts that Tiger almost made (read MISSED).
Was it just that none of the players I mentioned hit shots as exciting as the third medium length putt in a row that tiger left on the low side of the cup? I think I'll stay on my high horse as long as they spend the very limited broadcast time you brought up to show everything Tiger at the cost of actual golf coverage.
By the way, yes we understand ratings. Are we required to enjoy everything that gets ratings, or approve of it? Or perhaps, we could come to a place where people discuss things, and i don't know...discuss (i think in ancient Greece they called it a forum). I understand exactly why Tiger's on all the time and I can deal with it fine. On the other hand, I didn't come to a forum to not speak.

Man, I want to apologize for starting this thread. Note to self: A) Everything will eventually come back to Tiger (which is good because I am a fan of seeing and hearing about the best) or B) The only equipment worthy is made by Muira. Now, I am going to go tune in to a Greg/Chrissy-free broadcast. But I am sure the cornballs in the media will find something cheesy to rally around (Maybe "The Incident" involving Mcilroy).

I think that Gary has passed the mantle of inane comments to Trevor- he is even starting to sound like him in interviews- everything is fine, wonderful and the greatest there has ever been and its not easy out there, there is a disaster awaiting on every hole (a rehash of his comments from last year)- Gary is the best player and man to have ever played the game etc
