Hmm.... a little late to the hate fest, no?
I always thought the person in the lead at the end won. Isn't that the definition of winning, or have they changed it since my playing days?
In any case, Tiger putted like the champ he is, or O'Hair would have won. Poor round or no by O'Hair. As much as this may cause you pain and no small amount of mental anguish,
Tiger won at Bay Hill. Again.

I mean Tiger won the tournament but without the help from O'Hair on Sunday then he obviously doesn't win. The bottom line is, Tiger had a lot to do with the reasoning for Sean's Sunday play.

Intimidation, nerves, lack of experience, lack of preparedness, droping a great putt on the 18th or a 14 major winner facing your down on every tee box. Chaulk it up to whatever, but Tiger won!

It would obviously be different if Tiger went out and shot 63 or something. But he shot 67 which is still a great score on Sunday at Bay Hill but there is just no way he would have thought 67 was good enough to win being 5 back. O'Hair didn't play well...period and I think playing with Tiger in that final group had something to do with it.

Even if you don't like Tiger, which you say you do, you still have to recognize what he did, WHICH IS WIN THE TOURNAMENT!! How many clutch putts did he make? Ohair had his shots to hold on even at the end, but Tiger had to play his brains out to win. Birdie on the final hole to win, he had to work for that WIN.

Tiger won period. One putts on 3 of the last 4 holes. Birdies 18. He did it when he needed to, regardless of how many strokes o'hair blew. Shaun left the door open, but Tiger still had to hit the shots. I followed Tiger/Shaun on Sunday and it was crazy. I think a big part of Tiger's advantage is the crowd. When Tiger is putting everyone is still. If he putts out first it is a race to the next tee box. It has to be hard for the other players to putt out with half the crowd running away from the green. I think due to his popularity Tiger always has a home field advantage.

Don't forget the dozens of cameras and press people crashing every tee like a swat team trying to take out the most wanted man on earth.
Even with my credentials , I was swarmed out on every tee. Every toss of a blade of grass by Tiger is followed by hundreds of clicking and clackings cameras. Murmmers constantly wofting over the crowd as people jockey for any last possible inch of viewing area. Even as he set ups theres still a moment of settling in the crowd before he starts his swing. Then , at the absolute instant of impact , comes a roar from the crowd of deafening proportions , cheers . . .hollors, often times outright screems. Within seconds the crowd swarms towards the next green or fairway , stomping anyone who can't keep the pace followed closely be the hoards of press.
"O'Hare sir , your up. "
Now you tell me, how well do you think you will hit 'your' tee shot.
It's almost unfair IMO.

Fact: if O'Hair shoots even par he wins easily and people would say he almost let tiger back in it. fact is a world class player should be able to shoot even par on that course any time, him not doing so says one thing and one thing only, he choked big time. If you don't like the word choke because you are sooooo politcally correct and don't like to offend we can say "he did not perform up to expectation under pressure" By his choking he allowed Tiger to have the opportunity to win.
If O'hair shoots even par the entire sports world would be officially wondering "what is wrong with Tiger?" instead of saying he is better than ever. The whole peice they had on NBC today was silly, they did an entire recap of Tigers win because they knew the current tournament was not exciting enough.
I admire what Tiger is doing because it is truly astounding, but I think I am going to have to start rooting against him, (like anyone really cares) simply because he is so hyped that I am getting annoyed. I swear to God that Johnny Miller and Dan Hicks would make out with him if they were told to, it is sick really.

People seem quick to judge when a guy doesn't play like God on Sunday. Too me, it can also be like a guy shooting 62 on Thursday and then a 75 on Friday. Its not just pressure, you can use up a lot of mental energy thur-sat and its only natural that you won't play as strong on Sunday sometimes, especially with all the distractions.
Sure nerves are a factor, I'm not denying that, I'm just saying that maybe he wouldn't have even have been in a position to win if he hadn't expended a ton of his energy already.
Golf isn't a 100 yard dash, its a longer race where you have to manage your energy or you'll fade in the end. Same thing with horse races; especially when your racing against a Secretariat or Seabiscuit like Tiger Woods. Leading on turn 3 don't mean sh!t if you have already burned yourself up. Its not necessarily choking, it can also be a mismanagement of energy.
Lowest score after 72 holes. Would Tiger have "choked" if the bogey on 17 or whatever cost him the tourney?

Choke or not it doesn't matter. Tiger came up big again. Winning 30% of your starts is huge, He deserves every bit of the make out session with Johnny and Dan. I never root for or against any golfer. I look at tournaments like a 4 chapter book. I root for the best story. Tiger coming back from 5 down and making a putt with the sun going down was a great ending. If Shaun O'hare had to choke to get us there then so be it.
During the US open I was rooting for Rocco because I felt he was the better story. But as Tiger's leg got worse I found myself rooting for him because he became the better story. At some point someone will not fold. I hope it is Greg Norman next week at the masters. That would be a HUGE story.

Last year when a buddy and I were playing a par 3 coming in, I checked the score card and saw that in order for me to win, my buddy had to blow up on the last hole. He blew up, I got a par, and I won.
I had the low number at the end of the day, and so did Tiger at Bay Hill. I hoped O'Hair would hold it together, but he didn't. Tiger beat him. (Cool, I just used "I" and "Tiger" together in the same sentence. Disclaimer: I'm not a big Tiger fan.)

It's a 72 hole tournament. If you had swapped O'hair's first and fourth round scores, he'd have still lost by one yet people would be talking about how he almost ran down Tiger for the win. You don't have "it" every single time you tee it up, and maybe Sunday just wasn't his day.
Was Tiger choking when O'hair was going low the first two days?
