could you date or marry a girl that was better than you at golf? I don't think I could. It would be tough.
skinny99
He!L yeah!! And hopefully should would make more money than me too!! man_in_love.gif She would still know who the man is!!

I dream of finding this girl...

Probably settle for one who plays on a regular basis though.
suavemilagro
Hell yeah... competition in the relationship keeps things light, why wouldn't you want a wife that could hang with the guys, and kick their a** on the links. Quell the ego, and go find a hottie golfer chick.
golftide
I mean if it was natalie gulbis then yes, but if it was someone like laura davies then no. lol
ejmac
If I was not married, no problem in the long run it would make me a better golfer. No ego here, this game has already curbed any ego I may have once had.
scotto69
Why would any single man (hetero) object to marrying a girl as pretty as Gulbis, Creamer, etc.... especially considering how much $$ they make just because they play golf real well?

If golf ability is that much a part of your overall self esteem, you need to reconsider you life unless your a top pro. If she is a cool gal, looks nice, she can go ahead and outdrive me by 50 yds, talk smack, etc... as long as she doesn't think that matters off course.
ohcanada17
sign me up! I am a scratch and would let her beat me every day on the course just to make her smile...
kekoa
only creamer. otherwise NO.

my good friend Mike did, he was a good mini tour player and he married Stephanie Louden who is on the LPGA, they seem to be a super happy couple and its pretty cool to see them come out and play and practice
he now quit playing professionally and he loops for Wendy Ward so he can travel with Steph

My wife took up the game a few years ago and has so much natural talent for the game. I would love it if she really achieved her potential on the links. I have no doubt that if she put the kind of time in that I do on the course/range, she would stomp my brains in regularly, and it would make me very happy.

Only a very insecure man has to be better than his wife at things. A real man would realize that having a wife who loves golf is a terrific benefit (makes taking the clubs on vacation an easy decision, and you know what you will be doing on your days off together, hint it won't be something you hate). Who cares if she handles you on the links, just be happy she handles you at all.

kitsoasis
YES! I think it would be great, plus I don't care if my girl beats me in stuff. Just last week I lost in Scrabble...
Dbogey
Sure.....as long as she was top am. quality or LPGA material, i would have no problem carrying the bag for her!! even if she wasn't top am. quality or LPGA it would be pretty cool to have a wife that could whoop my friends!

I once played a match against a very tidy 2-handicapper (UK handicap) who was dating a prominent European Ladies Tour player.

He said he'd never beaten her- off the same tees.

My chance has been and gone, but I'd do it. The game will always be the master.

I may have said no - when I was 25 or under. Now that I have a few years under my belt, why would that matter? With all due respect to the NO group, you're not ready for marriage!

Exactly.....   clapping.gif

It's hard to find hotties that are single digits let alone scratchers.
golfdad907
oh yeah, no problem...and if a hottie, 2x no doubt....hot chicks golfing well, what's not to like man_in_love.gif

I did date a girl once who was better than me at golf, and I thought that was just fine. But she was a vegetarian who joined the Air Force after I had already served in the US Navy.

I told her, "Good luck with that!"
eatthemoney
Since women are inferior in every way this is a stupid question, I mean seriously the LPGA Tour has a gimme rule, those scores aren't even real

+1

I wouldn't mind in the least.

I would be happy if she just enjoyed playing as much as I do. If it turns out she's better, it certainly is no deal breaker!
highergr0und
I could definitely marry someone who's better at me than golf, but I'm not and that makes me happy too.

My wedding is 5 weeks away and my fiance has no desire at all to play golf. She's totally fine with me playing and suggests stuff like "let's go to Ireland/Scotland for vacation and you can play that Saint something course". That'll be the next trip after our honeymoon to Italy (no golf there though).

I really think there's a fine line. Either she's better than you or she hates golf but doesn't mind you playing. With all the threads on people hating slow play and high cappers, I'd imagine nobody would want to be stuck on a 5 hour round with the wife who can't hit the ball at all. I just really enjoy the time out with the guys.
Eagle006
I'd be thrilled to date someone better than me.

1) I could play more.

2) I could watch golf on tv without getting an earful and/or disapproving looks.

3) Just think how much you could learn. Ultimately, playing with someone better than you can only help make you better as well.

furthermore the said group has no clue about how marriage works imo

Sure but it really comes down to how she looks and performs. biggrin.gif

As Michael Douglas said about Katherine Zeta Jones: "...when I discovered she loved golf, I realized all my fantasies had come true." Last I read, she had about 10 points on his game.

On the other side of the coin, she's semi-quoted in Thaindian News (2008) as saying that she gives Michael golfing tips at times. “He listens to me when I give him tips - but if he’s having a bad day he pretty much tells me to shut up".

Personally, I'd love if my wife took up golf and became a much better golfer than I.

Dated a +handicap girl in college. That was cool, she was a hell of a looker and player too smile.gif

Date, hell yeah! That'd be super hot.... but who'd want to get married? Why ruin a good thing? ;-)
minitour
I'm sure my life wouldn't like it if I did.

Heck yes that would be awesome.

On a side note had a friend of friend that was married to a lady that played from the Blue's and out drove her husband, she was a pretty girl as well (good combo) any way she was always getting invites to play tournaments from guys so they could be hitting wedges into the greens. When she played with us she won both long drive holes hitting from the women’s tee box.
midasmulligan2000
My girlfriend plays (grew up around it - her whole family plays). I think her handicap is a couple of points higher than mine, but she does win sometimes, though she does play from the ladies tees. (Plus, I think she's hot ... wink.gif).

As far as winning or losing ... good grief, golf long ago destroyed any ego I might have (really, golf is the most perpetually humiliating game on the planet ...). I do not play - ever - against another person ... golf is me against the course. Whether someone I'm walking with shoots a score better or worse than me doesn't matter in the least.

I could VERY easily date a girl better than me at golf...major turn on partytime2.gif
DemolitionMan
Much better than the opposite problem. What if you married/dated a woman who was horrific at golf and on top of that a really slow player? And what if despite all your efforts to get her to play faster/better, nothing worked, but still she wanted to play?

My wife has played in 5 majors on the LPGA Tour so I guess I could clapping.gif

Lumpy_22
why not ???? you'd think in that case she'd have some interest and desire to play.

I don't find many at my cap, and the're are tons of men better than me, but not many women.

I would be open to it, especially if they shared my passion for the game... wouldn't have to argue over vacations, and what to do on weekends...lmao

cop
No problem, my girlfriend is a hcp 4 player, a'm a hcp 8, and I enjoy it very much. We always play from the same tee. If others are playing in the same flight we always have a match against them, and I love to see them, when she tee off with a perferct drive tongue.gif

I love her.
woohoo4me
Fortunately, golf has this little thing call a handicapping system. So even though my wife couldn't beat me straight up, with her strokes it's 50/50 on whether or not I win the nassau when we play. $5 nassau and $1 KPs........every round.

Payment in cash, 19th hole...........my wife is brutal about that!!!! cheesy.gif

Woo

I would be so happy if I dated anyone interested in golf.

One drawback though, double the expenses.

I totally agree with that.

The only problem with playing golf with a significant other is that you lose alot of that time you get on the golf course with yourself and your boys. Golf is a good way to get away from your spouse(which is healthy) and if your wife plays alot, its hard to not invite her out on the weekends.

I agree! My wife is new to golf, but is pretty dang good considering. Tuesday is golf day with the wife, Wednesday is golf day with the boys! Thursday is my practice day. I could not get it any better!

ABSOLUTELY! Country club babes are awesome!

I'm lucky to have found this girl. I met her at a party in college and we starting talking and for some reason golf came up pretty quickly and we just completely hit it off, been dating 3+ yrs now soon to make it more official.

She was district champ in high school, could of been college player but she said she did not have the mental toughness to really pursue it.

Shes about 5'2 and can hit the ball pretty far. Anyways, unfortunately (or fortunately) she beats me probaly 50% of the time. She has a great swing and makes good contact on all her shots. It super fun to play golf and to be able to share a passion together. Now I just have to convince her to step back a tee box to even it up a little...
jlin453
ABSOLUTELY! That would mean more golf time, and would push me to improve my game.
Sandberg23
Yep - my first date with who is now my wife was playing golf - and I got beat (it was quite a hit to the ego as she was the first good female golfer I had met or played with). After getting over that, it's been great ever since - we like to play together and one of the best trips we've ever taken was a couple years ago was a golf trip out to play Blackwolf Run and Whistling Straights. I do however probably beat her 75% of the time as I'm about a 9 and she's around a 14 so maybe that's why I can handle it biggrin.gif

I have and did.

Of course, only i get to have the hole in one....

I can't imagine meeting a girl and you love everything about her.....but she is better than you are in golf, so you end it? You sound like a Seinfeld/Costanza conversation in a Seinfeld episode (She had man hands, close talker, didn't look good in the dark, etc.). Please don't get married anytime soon......
Ward
I'd be ALL for it. My parents have been golfing together for probably 25 years now and they are in their 50s now. I tell him all the time that he's so lucky to have married a great looking woman who can also beat either of us on a good day on the course. His response was "yea but she nags at me a lot for drinking too much wine"
