We are a foursome flying into
Orlando, staying Daytona Beach for a guys golf trip. Any input on area golf courses would be great. We are looking at playing Walkabout, LPGA, Daytona Beach GC, Spruce Creek, and Pelican Bay North & South. Thanks

Walkabout is a great course, just played two rounds there. LPGA is really good,Legends is much harder then Champions. Pelican Bays courses are just so,so but playable, same for Daytona Beach GC. Spruce Creek is good but not great. Halifax Plantation is really good. I want to add one more to your list, Victoria Hills in Deland (twenty minutes away) is awesome!
I play most of these courses regularly!
I would play
1. Victoria Hills
2. Walkabout
3. LPGA (Legends)
3a. LPGA (Champions)
4. Halifax Plantation
5. Spruce Creek
6. Pelican Bay (North)
7. Daytona Beach GC (North)
8. Daytona Beach GC (South)
9. Pelican Bay (South)
PM me if you have any questions! Todd

I thought Pelican Bay was private? Also, I was told Riverbend was closing in April, any truth to that?
I can vouch for WalkAbout. Played there at the start of the year. Great course.
Only one I haven't seen mentioned is Cypress Head. Its decent and not very expensive.
Might check out Venitian Bay here in New Smyrna too. I'm not sure if its public or not. Looks great, but I have not played it

Thanks everyone for the responses, they help out a lot.
We were in Daytona Beach last year, and played Victoria Hills, LPGA (both), and Cypress Head. We are coming the first week in June, and Victoria Hills is aerating that week. That really bummed me out.. as that was a really nice experience.
We have termed this years trip, the Recession Vacation. So we are looking at saving money on green fees. We have found some websites with discount tee times, these have some really good deals. I am sure they will be even better in June. Anyone knowing of any discounts?
It seems that Pelican Bay is under new management, and the North course is now public. The location and price are really good, but I have read some bad reviews regarding the conditions at the South course. Any input would be great.

Riverbend is closing, and Pelican Bay is under new ownership and both courses are PUBLIC!

What about Indigo Lakes(I think that's the name)? It was next to a Holiday Inn just west of the Daytona Speedway. I played it many moons ago and it wasn't too bad. Has it become a "ranch"?

Has anyone got any info on Venetian Bay? Every time I drive by it's empty. Not sure if its public or not?
EDIT: Nevermind, according to their site its quite pricey. No wonder its empty...

Riviera Country Club
Home of Florida's Oldest Mini-tour event
Old school style, back and forth not subdivision golf
only like 6300 or so, but worth the visit
Good course to play the first or last day of your trip
Warming up or cooling down

I contacted Venetian Bay, and they have a "Member for a Day" promo, the weekday rate is $55, and the weekend rate is $65. Too pricey for this group.
We have not decided which course we are playing on our arrival day. Since we are flying into Orlando, we are looking at somewhere between there and Daytona Beach. We are most likely playing Walkabout, but any input on Deltona Club, Magnolia Plantation, and Debary would be great.
Also, which Daytona Beach muni course should we play? North or South? It looks like the North course is nicer.
Thanks

Walkabout is still my first choice! Played Magnolia Plantation Mon. it is in good shape, although greens were a touch slow,it is a good track and a real challenge. A good value, and not too far away. I havent played Debary lately but I love the layout,it always seems busy when I call. Deltona Club has been redone and is in good shape and I think recently lowered its price to a reasonable amount. Deltona Club has a real cool downhill par 3 230yds that plays like 5 clubs shorter.Venetian Bay is overpriced at $55. Daytona Beach North is nicer and an actual challenge,South is the most wide open course I have ever played. Have Fun. Todd

Thanks everyone for the input. After all my research, and finding out which courses will be aerating, we have finally set up our golf schedule for our June trip. The rates we have found are really good too.
Thurs pm - Debary GC
Friday am - Spruce Creek
Friday pm - Pelican Bay North
Sat am - LPGA Legends
Sun am - Daytona Beach GC North
Any comments or advice would be great!! Can't wait, we are 5 weeks out!!

Has anyone played the Grand Club courses? What were they like?
The Grand club has the Pines course and Cypress course. The Cypress course is tight with small greens but isn't in great shape. The Pines course is a bit more forgiving and is in pretty good shape, with nice greens.
Victoria Hills is a great track, very similar to the Pinehurst area courses, with rolling terrain and a nice mix of holes.
Scratch the Daytona Beach GC day and go to the Deltona Club. It was given an award for the restoration it underwent and is in the current issue of Golf magazine. at $40 it's the best value around.
If you go to Pelican Bay, stay away from the South course. There is no range and it's in goat ranch shape. The North Course is much nicer.
The Golf Club at Cypress Head is also nice, the greens are always in good shape and the price is reasonable. It would be a good substitute for Spruce Creek, which doesn't match up.
You can't go wrong with either of the LPGA courses. The Legends is tighter and has more water and elevated greens. The Champions course is an open layout with large multi tiered greens. Wind plays a factor here.
If you want a cheap round - Hit the Muni in New Smyrna Beach. It's an old Donald Ross design and the greens are in pretty good shape. A fun layout with a variety of holes and small greens.
Walkabout is a great venue, kind of a links course, with wide open holes and sloping green complexes surrounded by closely mown chipping areas.
If you can get on (It's Private but they sometimes let the public play in the summer), the Plantation Bay "Club de Bonmont" course is a
must play in the area. Play it in the morning and swing accross the highway and play Halifax Plantation after lunch.

We have finally finalized our golf schedule, after a couple of changes... I believe this is better lineup, and you just can't beat the rates in June.
Any thoughts would be great...
Thurs pm - Walkabout
Friday am - Daytona Beach GC North
Friday pm - Pelican Bay North
Sat am - LPGA Champions
Sun am - Debary GC

That looks like a good lineup to me on the budget.
I know Indigo Lakes, Cypress Head, and NSB Muni are aerating this week. Not sure how late in June you will be coming in.
I would replace Debary with The Deltona Club (check for aeration schedule, im not sure). Im pretty sure they are only $30 after 12pm and its a great newly renovated course. Im pretty sure the price would be comparable to debarry and its a much cooler course. The elevation changes at The Deltona Club are unlike most you will ever see in FL!
I would replace Pelican Bay North with Cypress Head. I know you played it last year but CH is just a nice course IMO. CH is only $23 after 1pm. I would also recommend Indigo Lakes over Pelican Bay. Indigo Lakes is a great course (I played there today and it was in great shape) but like I said they are aerating on Monday so be careful with that. Pelican Bay North isnt that bad though if you are getting a good deal.
Good call on Daytona Beach North. Its definitely the nicer of the 2 courses there. Its actually not bad for a Muni.
Walkabout and LPGA are great courses, you cant go wrong with them. Not that the Champions is a bad course but the Legends is much nicer in my opinion. I would honestly consider switching to the Legends course if you can. The CHampions course is more open and probably a little easier if that is a factor to consider.
Check out golfnow.com for great deals. Get on thier "Hot Times" email list for even better discounts.
I live in the area and have played the hell out of all the courses around here, if you have any questions let me know.

Thanks for the info...
We picked the LPGA Champions over Legends, as they are aerating the Legends on May 28th. I have play both and I do like it better of the two. I just don't know if it will be recovered by June 6th... I guess we can make the change once we get down there. Also, we got an afternoon rate at Pelican Bay North for $15, too good to pass up... Also, we got a AM round at Debary for $30 with a coupon, this is our travel day back home, so we needed an AM round.
We are staying in a 1BR condo at Ocean Walk Resort. Has anyone out their have any comments good or bad about this resort??
Now all I hope for, is some good weather when we are down there.
Less than three weeks out, can't wait!!

Due to the recent flooding in Daytona Beach, we shuffled (once again) our golf lineup. I read that Daytona Beach GC was flooded.
Any thoughts on Magnolia Plantation??
Thurs pm - Walkabout
Friday am - Magnolia Plantation
Friday pm - Debary GC
Sat am - Pelican Bay North
Sun am - LPGA Legends
