What a jerk. Maybe they should put that loser in the water.
Noel 905R
I sincerely hope this ***hole was ejected. Bad enough "fans" shouting "In the hole" at tee boxes but what does this say about the American golf fan to televisions viewers around the world? Organizers have to clamp down on such uncouth behaviour, it appears to be getting worse. A strict "one strike and you're out" needs to be implemented and enforced and publicly enforced and to let everyone know that such behaviour will not be tolerated. It's a disgrace.
502 to Right
Truly without class.
walterjay25
No class, jack@ss
seanh
What will it take to get these idiots to shut up?!?!?!?!
59Bassman
No more than two public executions. I'm guessing that will do the trick.
avrag
One Phil hater simply was desperate to show what a moron he is.
Harry Vivian Jones
Not acceptable. That guy and any other idiot who shouts needs booting out off the course- there is no place for it in this game
MtlJeff
i'm pretty sure it was Nick Watney that yelled that.

-Dan Hicks mentioned they should throw the guy out. Johnny was a little more supportive as it's a sporting event and all. Not sure who i think is right
scotto69
How pathetic of a human being do you have to be to go to an event like that and act THAT stupid? No amount of alcohol excuses being that desparate for attention and absolutely devoid of class.
gatorsteve
Yeah that caught me by surprise. But to be honest I was thinking that in my head but I would never scream that at a tournament.

The problem is, it wouldn't do much as the day is over at the course anyway. That's probably why the tool sheds wait until the last second...

Honestly- you dont know? Why is it such a difficult decision for you? Are you confusing golf with college basketball?
Wow...
FistPump
how is rooting against someone in golf any different than rooting against someone in a basketball or football game. it's not like the person screaming could control the ball flight..
steverum
It did look like it was going in the water.............it is entertainment/sport..............it wasnt on his back swing or anything

A-holes are everywhere

The more we give it attention, the more A-holes we will give ideas to in the future
JA5ON
Welcome to the modern day golf fan
TheNatural72
I missed it...Was it worse than the guy who heckled VJ in the middle of his back swin a couple of years ago?

i seem to have offended you.

One could argue that it's wrong to throw a paying ticket holder out simply for having an opinion. What he yelled was no more distracting to play than some idiot who yells "get in the hole" after a tee shot on a par 5.

Immature yes...but throw the guy out. I don't know. And having played college basketball i think maybe it would be cool if golf was more like it in some ways
LBlack14
What about what goes on at other professional sports venues???

Then I guess you have no issue with people whooping it up in your backswing, yelling whatever comes to mind while you're lining up that ten footer for birdie on 18, you know much like basketball or football...

Is there not enough threads here referencing golf as a gentlemen's game, seperating it from all other sport? Do we just acknowledge that frame of mind when it suits our fancy, or is it something we subscribe to day in and day out?

The guy is a punk, plain and simple- doesnt matter WHO the recepient is of such idiotic behavior. I'll go out on a limb and say you're a Tiger Woods fan- what if it was directed his way?
Cally4life
If they do nothing about stuff like that, people of that sort are like a plague........it will multiply and golf will no longer be a class sport!!! Then before you know it theyll have XXXL white tshirts and their pants on backwards!!! Oh and call 911 for ambulance transport because its free with medicaid and they would have to pay fee for a taxi!! But in some eyes "thats good" pfff!
blaird
I dont think you can compare golf to any other sport. golf is a game of class that is policed by the players themselves. i dont think "get in the water" boy should be thrown out for his first offense, maybe the second, but this was completely uncalled for. I wish we could get the info on all these guys that yell dumb stuff at tournaments, at the end of the year have a televised tournament with a big 1st place check and let them go out and play. Then let all the pga tour guys in the gallery and yell at them.

Not in the least- dont know you from Adam so why would I be offended in any way? just a bit surprised that you dont know "who was right"...
SpinMill75
I thought it was pretty lame for someone in the gallery to shout that. It would have been funny if Bones wrapped Phils driver around that guys skull. Even if you not a fan of whoever......keep it to yourself. But, thats golf in America.
kslinksguy
My thought was that the moron wasn't doing Nick Watney any favors. Yeah, lets throw out some negative thoughts before your guy gets to the tee. Watney was already doing everything he could to keep his cool, some guy turning the golf tournament into his own venue for drunken grandstanding probably wasn't helping that.

I'm just glad it didn't seem to affect EITHER player.
Q-Ball
Im not a Phil fan, but thats out of line. I like the public execution idea.
mgranato
Walking off the tee, a fan yelled "We got 'em for you Phil!" Phil smiled back and said "don't worry about it." That kind of stuff motivates some guys, evidenced by him flagging one of the toughest second shots in golf. Some guys get folded by such comments - see DL III.

Great win by a classy player, and great almost win by another classy player.
DeaconEsq
I was right behind the 18th as Phil launched his tee shot. Complete lack of class from the "get in the water" idiot.

The crowd was very good otherwise. I only heard 1 or 2 "get in the holes" and that one "get in the water" idiot.
danimal
i'm not phil's biggest fan but the a$$ who yelled that is a total fuc&tard.

How stupid and totally classless can you be to yell that?

Golf is a gentlemans game if I want to hang out with fans like that I'll go to see WWE or Nascar.

Until then the security should apply the taser to his sack.
rolltide4life
that was totally classless but in my living room I was yelling get in the water, but that was my living room
Jer-Jer
I really don't see it as a big deal. People have their favorites and who they choose to root for. Granted it may not have been the best time to say that.

I would say the same thing if it happened to Tiger. You can bet on that.

P.S. I happen to like Phil. Thanks though.
mizunogolf74
One of the things that brought me to this game recently was that it had such "class". Really sad to hear this kinda stuff. I would hope that golf can stay unique to football and basketball etc.

elp3022
Golf is different from other sports- period. That has never been acceptable at any tournament at any time. Besides, it's stupid.

Oh please....if that had happened to Tiger, you and ToiletBowles would have sent a militia to Doral to take care of the guy.

Bottom line, the guy was wholly inappropriate.

Look man I have no desire to argue with you. You're making an assumption about me without any valid information. If you don't agree with what I say or believe what I say that's fine.
moose_1978
I still think they should of thrown his a** out just to make a statement. Like Phil or not it was not a very mature thing to do. I was glad to see Phil playing well.
tommyjewell-1994
i remember i was playing in a junior tour event and i was even with this kid through 17 holes and whoever won between us would win the tournament. i remember on the 18th green, i had a putt to win and i hear the dad of the kid whispering "miss it". after i drain the 15-footer, i look over and give him a nasty look.

it's amazing what @$$'s some fans can be. that guy should be thrown out and never welcome into a tour event again.
DDC
I thought I heard Watney apologize to Phil as they were walking off the tee .... after Phil commented on Watney's nice drive. Anyone else here that?
vinnyv20032003
If you watch the video after phil hit his shot and he's with "Bones", Phil seems maybe slightly disturbed by it. I'm sure he said something briefly about it...

Excuse me?! Looks like Mr S*itty is brave behind a keyboard. Golf is golf. Insults are totally uncalled for and pretty shallow.
My2Dogs
I think that guy who shouted that was a Watney fan. I could have sworn that when Nick hit his tee shot they same guy yelled "way to go Nick" or something like that. Sure sounded like the same voice. Either way keep the negative comments to yourself.
Johnny
I dont care who they aim a comment like that towards... if I ever here it, I'm calling that guy a &*%k as loud as he said it.

The guy who yelled after Phil's tee shot is a no class loser. Anyone who has respect for the game would never do something like that.

naj959
This is supposed to be a gentleman's sport that kind of behavior goes against everything the game stands forever. I don't care how much you don't like a player you never ever openly route against them.
