Just received the news that High Pointe Golf Course just outside Traverse City, MI will not open for the 2009 season due to difficult economic times.
My friends and I would play this course 3-4 times a year. Such a beautiful course, and a shame just to see it sit idle.
I hope and pray that this economic turmoil ends sooner than later.

High Pointe is not going to be open? That's too bad...

Very sad. This was Tom Doak's first design when he was 28 years old.

Don't be surprised if golf courses start attaching mowers to their golf carts...

Not surprising. Michigan has way too many courses....which is nice during a good economy, but very bad now. On top of that, a lot of the "up north" courses think a lot of themselves in spite of all the competition. This will further drive people to just play their local goat tracks, which are far cheaper. The best courses will make it (i.e. Arcadia Bluffs), but the ones on the next tier are the ones in trouble IMO.
