What's your favorite Rolex that you own?

Do you wear it while you play?

If you do (like Philly Mick), don't you think it throws off your swing weight? We all nerd over 2-4 grams of weight, yet we put 200+ gram watches on our wrists while we play...

Personally, I wear a stainless steel GMT IIc (and also have a LV sub), but I don't wear either while I play golf.

No Rollies but I have these two, one for work and one for play. Shopping for a chrono for the past year or so - Looking at getting another Sinn, the 103, or a Breitling. And I don't play golf in either of them although I have hit the range a few times. I wouldn't worry about the movement, to be honest.

Currently wearing the Explorer II. I do not wear it when I golf and am always surprised to see Phil wear one on the course. I will admit the leather band he wears takes a lot of the weight but a big distraction for me. (I tried it once, lasted 2 holes)

Nice watches ... I agree; golfing won't hurt any decent watch.

You got great taste in clubs - very close to mine.

No pic, but wear a Submariner over due for an overpriced oil replacement. Wear mine while playing. Maybe I can lower my handicap if I don't wear it....next time, I'll take it off and see what happens!

i have a datejust. no way in hell i play golf w/ it. smile.gif

I have a SS Sub and an Omega Speedmaster Chrono, neither of which I wear whilst playing or practicing. It is not so much to do with the price of the watch, more that I find any watch is uncomfortable when playing.
nickpoz
I have a SS Sub Date and also a SS Daytona. No way I wear them when I play golf, no watches and no ring while golfing

I have a 20 year old Submariner that only comes off when I play golf. Too heavy to play with. it would drive me crazy.

MNGolfer03
SS Omega Speedy Pro, won't wear it on the course, distracting and will mess up the spring.

Only watch to be worn playing golf on the moon too.

I have a Sea Dweller although I am not a big Rolex fan. I have wore it to play a couple of times and I wont
anymore, it kind of hurts my wrist a little, I'll rather play w/o a watch.

I made the mistake of playing wearing a Panerai and it really destroyed my wrist area, i finished with pain and bruises but funny thing is I didnt feel a thing during the round... well lesson learned!!

I have President w/ gold band but I do not wear it when I play

But when I play golf, I wear my more sporty one- Tag Carrera with rubber band.

I am thinking about wearing Timex when I play golf because for the money
Timex is the best value in my opinion and doesn't give you any issue when it breaks

+1, I have a Fiver and i would NEVER wear that tuna can playing golf either. I bet the crown guard hurt you badly.

I'm an Omega guy myself, but do love a nice Daytona. I don't wear any watch or jewelry while golfing.

I've got a white faced turn-o-graph. i play with it on. i play tennis with it on. probably not a great idea, but i it is what it is and i saved and saved and saved and window shopped and window shopped and window shopped and pulled the trigger...

I've got an Omega Seamaster that I don't wear when playing golf. If it was quartz, I would.
Pinggolf04
I have a Stainless and white gold datejust I bought in 2000 and recently bought my wife a stainless datejust and myself a two-tone submariner with a diamond and sapphire face. I've got a GMT Master II I bought in 1989, I laugh when I see how much they are going for today. It's probably still working because I don't play with it on. The only thing on my hands when I play is a glove and a grip. I love the watch, I talked about trading it in a few weeks ago and my wife laughed at me, saying I would never do it...to much sentimental value. Shes right! For our anniversary I bought my wife a Womens Yatch Master Two Tone with a White Face...I think it's the best looking womens watch out there.

I think Michelson's Rolex is a Cellini quartz. I think it has been debated here in the past but I wouldn't wear a mechanical watch while golfing. They can absorb some shock but the amount created at impact I think it would be hard on the watch movement and effect its accuracy.

Dad's old Sea-Dweller 16600. I much prefer it to the Submariner - I don't like the magnifying date window of the latter. Dad was a former RN officer and got a rather nice Omega on his retirement - I blagged this one before he could say golden rivet.
Interestingly, Rolex has produced a new Sea-Dweller Deepsea that is guaranteed to a whopping 3.9km depth! Most nuke submarines cave in around 770m, long after any human.
I don't wear it for work or golf either - too bulky, but also very precious personally.
Ward
Well, I dont have a rolex until my dad one day gives me his everose daytona he just got, but I never play with my cartier roadster chrono on my wrist. The watch is so big and heavy and even if you never hit it fat or create damage to the movement from shock(debatable), it certainly wouldn't be good because of the excessive wear and tear the bracelet and pins would get.

side note....u gotta love just how much excessive utility all these diving watches have, however I've never seen a suit and tie donning dude dive anywhere deeper than the bathroom sink with his sport watch on at the office lol.

Great watch!

I've got a tag heuer link but it is again to heavy to play with. The tag golf watch or some lighter rolexs seem as if you can play in them though.

How much would an average Rolex cost? I am thinking about one for my birthday.
retep
pat du golf...
average? not sure...
turnograph seemed to be ~5800, i think plain datejust is 5300? go to a rolex dealer (in delware for no tax?) and ask em. tell him today and see what they charge, probably a few hundred less...
if you are thinking gold/steel i think those are a bunch more, i didn't like those, of course love the old platinum president, i think 40k/usd now... crud, can't afford that ever
I hate to say i compromised when i bought one, but i did. i couldn't afford what i really wanted, which i wasn't sure what i really wanted, but it would have had a day and a date, steel, etc... but didn't like oris that much and few other options that are affordable, maybe look at watchluxus.com for a filter to find stuff... good luck!

An older stainless steel model would likely cost around (depending on model)...

Explorer II ........ $2,300 - $3,200
GMT Master II ... $3,200 - $3,800
Submariner ....... $3,200 - $4,000

Brand new, they above watches around anywhere from $4,500 to $7,150 (stainless steel)

The newer the higher the price (normally). The exception is really old and rare models, where a double red submariner or sea dweller could run in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

I'd suggest you check out the 'bay OR go to www.rolexforums.com to get more information. Rolexforums is very much like GolfWRX in that buying from watch ho's there is almost certainly going to get you the real deal ... don't have to worry about fakes. They are a great group on that site, and the don't put up with fakers.

Will post pics later, but I have three... SS/Platinum Yachtmaster, White Gold/SS Datejust with roman markers, and a leather banded gold Cellini with black face.

I can't play with a watch on as it tends to pinch a bit.

I have a few Rolexes.. Daytona, Datejust ( two-tone), Datejust ( stainless ), President.. Cartier Roadster and Tag Heuer Professional watch..I normally wear either the Daytona or the Tag while playing...

Wow, should have cleaned them up a little first!! Didn't know it was difficult to take a good picture of a watch!!

And no, I never wear a watch playing golf.
Sartorial
Sea-Dweller and GMT Master II (both old styles) here and I take them off while playing and put them in a leather watch satchel for the round.

FYI: I also have Seiko Spirit that gets a surprising amount of wrist time!

Omega guys, the absolute sweetest looking watch I have seen is the Omega Co-Axial that is advertised in this months Golf Digest. Anybody know where I can find one? When I ask about this watch at all the "authorized dealers" none of them have a clue what I'm talking about. I'm wanting this exact watch...black leather band with orange stitches and orange dials. Again, if you have this months Golf Digest it's on the foldout page of Bubba Watson's swing sequence. How much do Omega's cost anyway? Thanks!

EDIT - Nevermind, I found it...$5,800, no wonder I loved it!

I sadly have 15 watches including 8 Rolex, bit of a watch freak or at least I used to be really into them. My favorite out of the bunch is my SS/Plat Yachtmaster that I received from my wife as a gift. I also have a Sub Date, Seadweller, Explorer II (black dial), TT Date Just, GMT Master II with pepsi (blue/red) bezel, and a regular Explorer 36mm. My two Pams are an 005 Logo and a 104. I have a few Omega's, Planet Ocean on bracelet, and a Bond Seamaster. Cartier Roadster, Oris Miles Chrono, Tag Heuer Carerra Chrono on strap, and an IWC Fleiger Chrono. No Pateks or AP's yet.

Rolex makes a great watch but their prices have gotten completely rediculous in the last two years and I just cannot justify them anymore. A SS Sub date now retails for $6k??? Come on, it's no where near a $6k watch, not even close. I got my Yachtmaster two years ago for $7400 from a Rolex AD, now the retail price is $9800 I believe, same watch and nothing has changed on it... just crazy. I will say though that the SS Daytona is worth every penny. Never have been able to get my hands on one though at list price and I will not pay over list just to have it.

Anyways, I cannot wear a watch while playing golf, too annoying with the glove and it sliding up and down my wrist. I wear one to the course and take it off and put it in the valuables pocket during the round, then back on after the round.

Phil wears a Cellini automatic with leather strap during rounds, I have seen him with SS Daytona's, Yachtmasters and Subs after the round during interviews. I believe Charles Howell III wears the same watch while playing, a Cellini. Nice watch and they can be had for real cheap on the pre owned market as they are not very popular in the real world. Too dressy for me though.

The worst watch ever created is the TW Tag Golf watch, what a joke and mistake for Tag. Just my oppinion though, not a huge Tag fan to begin with and was disappointed when TW signed with them. Preferred him with Tudor or would have liked to see him go to Omega or even Rolex.

Thanks.

Planet Ocean - great watch ... feels great on the wrist as well. I could have purchased one (no tax) in Guam a year ago for $3,000 (best deal I could work), but I decided against it in favor of the Submariner LV (green bezel / Maxi-dial)

I don't even own a watch. Well, I do have a clock in my Polar heart rate monitor, but only wear that when exercising strenuously.

Funny thing is, even without a watch, I am never late.

But I get the impression spending thousands on a watch has nothing to do with being on time.

msn2310,
You really seem to know your stuff. I have a Tag but have always salivated over Breitlings. I noticed you did not mention them. What gives? I thought they were highly regarded.

In this day and age there really isn't much of a reason to have a watch, there are clocks and cell phones everywhere.

I relate having a high quality timepiece that I really enjoy similar to having a high end car - I get the same kind of enjoyment out of it - except that I can enjoy my watch any time of the day or night simply by looking down at my wrist. I can have it with me no matter what I am doing. It's something you really only understand if you catch the bug!

Do you buy all your Rolex watches second hand? If you have a relationship with one AD that regularly sells you time pieces, you could get an SS daytona very easily without being on some stupid list. My grail watch is the AP ROO rose gold rubberclad. I'd like to be fortunate enough to collect Royal Oak Offshores and a few Daniel Roths or F.P. Journe pieces. I like watches haha.

I have both a Submariner Blue Dial and the Omega Planet Ocean (both gifts from my wife who is in the biz). I used to wear a watch 24/7 but found out about 3 years ago that I have a bone defect in my left wrist ("positive ulner" if memory serves me correctly) that was starting to cause me serious pain in my wrist when swinging a golf club. I had to get 2 cortisone shots and stop wearing my watch on my left wrist. I know wear my watches on my right wrist, but I don't wear them golfing anymore.

I agree with one of the earlier poster about the ridiculous cost of Rolex watches. When my wife got me the Sub in the early 90s it was right around $3600-$3800. That same watch is now something like $9600. Now, they have certainly improved some things (better crystal, bezel and some internals) but there is no way I would buy one today. The Planet Ocean was a much better deal and the mechanism (co-axial) in the watch is the best on the market right now. Supposed to be more accurate and longer lasting (between tune-ups) than my Rolex.

And (at least according to Rolex and Omega) you can't hurt a Submariner or Planet Ocean by wearing it when playing golf. They are designed to deal with a lot more shock and vibration than you cause by swinging a golf club. So if you like to wear it when golfing, go right ahead.

If anyone considering buying buying Rolex seriously, PM me, I will let you know
how to get them in almost 40% less than retail.

No ebay thing here but don't want to post it here either.

Jewerly retailer do not sell premium watches for just few hundres bucks, that is the fact

Mark up for Rolex is huge just like OEM golf clubs to pay the rent and so on.

I currently do not own any Breitling's but I have had a zillion of them. Great watches, I just got out of the all polished SS "bling" look which is the majority of Breitling's line up. I have had at least 15 of them in the past, sold them all.

Yes, I have purchased most of my Rolex watches pre owned over the last 5 years and have only bought a few from an AD hence why I was never "preferred" enough to get a SS Daytona. Did not spend enough with any of them which is basically how it works, they like to offer them to their best customers first.

Watches were a sickness for me for many years, Fed Ex, UPS or USPS was at my door almost once a week with a new one for a long time, I would buy one I liked pre owned, wear it for a week or two and then decide I wanted something different, the nice thing about buying a slightly pre owned Rolex SS sport model is that they hold their value very well, I would rarely lose any money and in some cases I actually made a few hundred bucks on a few.

Patek, AP, A Lange Sohne, Journe are all nice but out of my league at the moment. Very pricey but maybe someday, will definately have to part with some Rolexes in order to purchase a nice one. $25k minimum for a decent one and that is pre owned.

Sorry to turn this into a watch forum post... old habit! Golf is my new watch disease.
