Full Version: Best Stand Bag That Also Works Well On A Cart

I decided to start my own thread rather than jack the other one any further.

I have a Sun Mountain 3.5 Superlight stand bag on the way, but I'm questioning if I made the right choice now. I've been reading that they are not good at all for riding on a cart due to the stand foot mechanism on the bottom of the bag, and I probably ride at least 50% of the time if not more.

So for the SM 3.5 owners. Is it a pain in the a$$? I don't want something that I have to fight with.

What I'm looking for is something very plain and simple, that will ride on the cart easily but that I can also carry and has a stand for a few afterschool/work rounds with my son.

I don't want any funky club dividers, just the standard 5-6 way top is perfect. Don't need many pockets as I don't carry much. Bright colors are not important, I'm boring biggrin.gif

What am I looking for?

I think another option you might want to consider is to get a cart bag and buy a push cart for the times you are going to be walking. Good push carts are expensive new, but you can find a lot of barely used ones on craigslist, ebay, etc. I bet you could find a cheap one on BST too if you put up an add.

I walk alot and like the option to carry my bag across a green, so I use a stand bag personally. However, if those aren't huge concerns then a push cart might be a good solution. Plus, it's pretty sweet to walk a round without 30lbs strapped to your back. Feel free to disregard if it wouldn't work for you.

The best stand bags for a cart are the Ogio Grom, Edge and Nexos. All 3 have the torque strap to secure the bag to the cart and the stand mechanism is such that it doesn't get in the way standing upright on a riding cart. They work great on a push cart as well.

SUN MOUNTAIN MPB IS WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR

The 3.5 is always turning sideways on the cart. I find it a big pain, and continue the search for that ultimate carry/cart bag. I also see the clubs and shafts getting stuck alot in the 3.5, no easy access. But overall, still a decent bag.

This is exactly what I'm afraid of with the 3.5. I got mine today and although it's a great looking bag and really lightweight, I'm concerned with the cart issue.

What about the Hoofer Vantage or Hoofer 2 or 3? I had a Vantage for awhile but never tried it on a cart, but I do remember it not having that foot thing on the bottom sticking out to kick the legs out.

Mizuno tour stand bag works very well carried, trollied or carted. Plenty of room, good club system and you can whip the cover off the external frame and sling it in the washing machine.

no ping bags have the foot mechanism on the bottom of the bag. they make it very easy to put it on a cart witout fear of having the piece break.

You are always going to have to make a compromise.

The 3.5 is an excellent bag -- I've had one for 2 seasons.

But using it on a cart will ruin it faster-- low weight in any bag means less stability and more twisting.

I went to the 2 Bag Solution.

I use the 3.5 on most days.

At the same time, I will play a scramble or have friends who want to use a cart -- for that, I purchased a SM Super Deluxe bag. You can usually find the prior year's models at a nice discount.

The problem with the bags that will be offered is that they will be heavy - any dual purpose bag will be 5.5-7.7 lbs -- I don't want to lug that weight when I'm carrying -- I like the 3.5.

Ogio with torque strap +1.

This one. Torq strap secures bag to cart. Stand mechanism for legs doesn't get in the way.

Ogio Grom = 6.3 lbs - UGH! for carrying

And Ogio's legendary poor legs.

Go the two bag route -- the 3.5 for carrying, and a real cart bag for a cart. You could even do a heavier (6-8 lb) hybrid bag where the legs are hidden for cart use but are there for the range.

I'm a believer also in the two bag system. Somewhat of a pain but probably worth the tradeoff imho.

Ogio grom.

another vote for Ogio.....

* Ogio Edge ....if you mostly ride & walk occasionally ...otherwise I recommend....

* Ogio Grom ...

The Grom 08' can be had at Golfsmith.com for $99 right now. However, I just looked and compared it to the 09', and concluded the 09 is much better.
I don't know whether anyone who owns the 09 can comment, but the leg system looks improved. Also, the pocket layout seams slightly better.

Any comments?
