pull cart or carry? and why?
bigred90gt
I own a pull cart, and rarely use it. Since I have a single cab truck, I cant carry it around with me everywhere I go (my golf clubs take up all the room behind the seat). Last night I rented a pull cart for $4.00 just because I didnt feel like carrying my clubs. When I do walk, I typically just carry them. Thankfully, when I bought my pull cart, I bought the cheapest one they had at $20. I've more than gotten my money's worth out of it already, so I'm ok with not using it that often. If I'm at the house, and know I'm going to walk the course before I go, I'll put it in the bed of the truck and take it with me. But usually when I walk, it is after work, so I dont already have it.

Carry. Too cheap to buy a pull cart and I will be covered in sweat regardless so I might as well have a reason for it... besides being fat lol.

Carry. IMO the pull/push carts look trashy.

Good enough reason for me.

I have a cart that I rarely use anymore. I'm a young kid, so to be honest I don't wanna look incapable of carrying a bag on my back for 18 holes.

Absolutely pull cart. By the time I put 8 beers in the cooler pouch of my bag, it's too heavy to carry. Of course, it gets gradually lighter, but at the same time, I get gradually less capable of carrying it. biggrin.gif

Carry. Too cheap to drop the $200 for a nice cart.

I carry my bag. Walking a course is pretty much the only exercise I get anymore, might as well make it count.

Push cart. I'm over 50. I carry lots of stuff - food, water, clothes. Makes sense to me.

Viva clicgear, the rolling ice chest!

Push cart. I used to carry but landed a Sun Mountain cart pretty cheap a few years ago. I find it fairly handy. No more scorecard in my pocket and I have a place to hold a few balls and tees besides my pockets.

I wouldn't say my bag is heavy, since I have one of the lightweight Sun Mountain stand bags but I like to be able to just push it around and not mess around with the straps etc.

I sometimes carry, sometimes use my push cart, sometimes ride. Usually depends on the weather and who I'm playing with.

Anything that encourages walking the course is a good thing!

Lets talk to all the carry guys (if they truly carry almost all the time) after many years. hanging a golf bag on your shoulders without the back support NEAR what a good backpack does is murder on your back long term! Many high school districts are starting to convert to having them use push carts for this very reason.

Looks don't have much to do with it. I mean, walking is great (I do it most of the time) but I'm just not willing to put that kind of strain on my back with the amount that I do walk. Really, think about the weight distribution, you are "hunched" over, most of the weight is low and over your hips not close to the center of your back like it should be (again, think of a good backpack). No serious hiker would EVER carry a bag that hung like a golf bag does, so I'm just not going to put my back through it either... Just a thought.

I have a pull cart that I bought for like $15 and it's just been collecting dust. Sometimes I'll switch up to my cart bag and slap that on the pull cart but that is once in a blue moon. If I was able to find a nice Sun Mountain push cart on the cheap I would definitely use that. I agree with the above because after 18 holes of schleping my bag my lower back does ache a little. But that could also be from me having loaded thousands of tons of weapons over the past 7 years of my life.

Carry almost always, except on the hottest and most humid days, those days where carrying drenches you from head to toe in sweat, then I use a push cart. I bought a cheap sturdy off brand one from Dunham's and it serves me well. I am in excellent shape, so carrying isn't a physical strength or endurance issue, more a comfort issue in hot weather.

I am under 50 and use a Clicgear. I don't need an excuse.

A couple things come to mind about the carry vs. pull cart "debate" which always puzzles me.

1. Why is it that people who use a pull-push cart are pussies, and those who ride get a pass from the macho carrying wonders?

2. If so many people on these forums carry, why don't I ever see a guy carrying 18 when I am one of the very few who is ever walking 18 with a cart?

3. The pros don't carry, why should I? If it is such an integral part of the golf experience, shouldn't the pros be forced to carry?

Clicgear is the only way I walk anymore. I'm 25, I don't give a crap what everyone thinks.

Great post, especially #1.

And again, you macho guys... we'll talk to those who carry all the time (few of which there are) in 10 years of carrying and see how your back is doing.

This has nothing to do with being in or out of shape... it's long term impact on your spine. Golf is enough of a "load" on your back as it is... don't need to add 20+ lbs of bad carrying posture.

I carry, personally, but I have to say that #1 more aptly describes where I draw the line than those with push/pull carts.

I really despise how much riding a cart has come to be an apparently accepted part of golf. I went to two golf shows last month, and no course dared talk about any deal without talking about carts.

ClickGear 2.0 push cart... and I'm under 50 man_in_love.gif . I bough my two boys (age 10 & 7) a push/pull cart as well, just looking out for me and my boys.

I'm 28 and I carry 90% of the time. I"ve really been thinking about a push cart as it does wear on the knee's and back plus I can play more holes walking. As far as I'm concerned those who have the push carts are the smart ones, no reason why we should all be human muels carrying a 60lb bag for 4 hours.

+1 on walking and the Clicgear cart but I'm in the over 50 crowd. The game was originally meant to be played walking and quite a few of the old courses in the UK/Scotland/Ireland won't let you have a buggy (power cart) unless you're disabled. For those who believe it slows down the game, we walked a 7.5 mile course on Saturday in just over 3 hours and 15 minutes. Never saw the group behind us after the first tee. They came in almost an hour behind us...as a 3 some.

I'm 29 and use both my Clicgear and carry bag. I prefer my Clicgear with my staff bag as it allows me to carry more stuff (beer) and is easier to get my clubs in and out besides also being less stress on my body. But I do have a Scotty stand bag that I will carry about once/week to get a little extra exercise.

I do it all, carry, push cart and drive, just depends on weather. This is a little off topic, but here it goes. Why is that a foursome of guys in two carts feel inclined to all pile out at each others ball and to watch him hit. Nothing worse than playing behind this and watching two carts zig-zag around the fairway and everyone getting out for every shot. For all guilty parties out there, you can still heckle, criticize, or give swing tips from the seated position. done!
