Hey, As I am sure every single on of you got home at 2:02 ET to watch the man tee off, I was wondering what grade you guys would give Tiger's first day back on the job. Whether it was his wild wedge shots or how he backed off his first tee shot, did any of you think Tiger seemed almost mediocre? I know mediocre and Tiger are two words that have never been within a mile within each other, It seemed to me that today they met. I know he just got back, its a new golf course, etc. But it's tiger. He had three bogeys on the front side. While Accenture is one of his sponsors, did he really need to come back right now? Well I am going to put up a poll, I am interested in what some true golf fans think.

it was match play he did what he had to, alot of his approach shots where off distance wise, though im not suprised new course at altitude.

The point of the match was for him to go through and he never looked like he would lose from the 3rd hole onwards, lets hope he gets to play macilroy in the 3rd round smile.gif

I think he just needs to not push a litle bit his second shots, and in some cases DONT GET SHORTĦĦĦĦ Dont make that ball spin a lot. A B from me

I would give him an A, the main goal was to win and that's what he did. Yes, some shots were slightly wayward but he hasn't played competitively for 250+ days. His follow through seams a little different, i'm not sure what it is but it looks like a very flat follow through to me, as if he's trying to sling a hook every time, just my opinion.

+1, not too bad for a long layoff from competitive golf. I'm glad that I'm not the only one that thought his follow thru was a little different than before.

I voted A, it was his first competitive round of golf. He won, with good shots and bad ones, too. Was it an A performance compared to Tiger's A game, of course not, but it will return. I think so many people expect perfection with Tiger, no matter what, I'm just happy he's playing golf again.
goldwolf
He did what he had to.

I have to say I was dissapointed with Brendan Jones attitude before the match, He was kind of already beaten before he tee'd up. I watched the interview and was expecting to hear some fighting talk like "I'm up for the match, I'll never get a better chance to beat the worlds number 1 golfer" etc

But it was more like "well, I'm only a jouneyman, I'm gunna get crushed so let's just see how far I can take the match".

He also had 2 eagles and a couple birdies. IMHO anything under par in your first competitive round back on the PGA Tour is solid.

I gave him a B. I'm sure he'll get it up to an A soon. wink.gif

He was 3 under par through 16 holes, that isnt bad. I think his game would have elevated if Jones' did, as he just seemed to ease off once the guy didnt give him much contention.
MrJones
I gave him a B just because, after watching it, I could tell he was not happy with how some of his shots went.

abewley
lol dude shoots 4 under for 16 holes on a 7800 yd course he has played once.. and people are giving him a B?!??!?!

I give him an A. His tee shots - which is his biggest weakness if he has one - for the most part were in the fairway and his short game was great too. Aside from 2 or 3 errant iron shots he was great! How could you not give this guy an A for his FIRST round back? Look how long it took Ernie Els to finally come back after his surgery. Also, he would have won more convincingly by 4-3 had Brendan not eagled the 15th.

I think people need to recognize his performance after major knee surgery instead of Tiger's expected performance. Had he not had knee surgery, I would say it was an average round for him, but you really need to look at is how he played after being away from golf for the amount of time he was. So for coming off of major knee surgery and being away from the game as long as he has, to play like he did is an absolute A in my opinion.

I give him a B, just didn't play great enough to get an A from me. He played well though and really didn't need to play amazing since his opponent wasn't really giving him that much grief. Just glad to see him back, but I think he is going to have to play better if he wants to get to the weekend and win this tournament.

I would give him a B to a B-. He got off to a great start but was shaky in the middle holes and took time to put away a guy who was having an awful day. Tiger may well have lost to a better player due to his less than stellar short game.

I know, high expectations for a first round back, but he is Tiger, after all. wink.gif

I gave him an A+. The only thing that I saw wrong was his miss hits with the irons and all of us that have ever played blades know that you either pure it or chip/pitch/flop the next shot.

I gave him an A. It would have been a far worse beating if the greens were quicker. I saw at least 5 putts that were tracking the right line but lacked a foot and a half of speed. I've never seen Tiger leave that many short, that probably won't happen today. He had some big shots and some poor ones, and I have a feeling his touch will be back today. As if his 'rusty' touch is that bad.
His full swing looks really good. He still pounds it out there despite everything and he still misses right so thats good. Match play, first game back after almost 9 months of non TOURNAMENT golf, new course, Win...definitely not mediocre looking, if anything just smoother.

B, in all honesty how in the world can you give him an A. He didn't win the tourney, he beat the lowest rated player in the field....for that I give him a passing grade...for an A you have to go above and beyond. All he did today is get by to the next match, nothing special.

The question was how did Tiger do in his FIRST day back. How could he win on the first day? He played pretty good and won his match, that's all he could do.

He had 2 eagles in 16 holes. I'm pretty sure that is special and doesn't happen that frequently. You also can't win a tournament on the first day and the question was how did his first day go. I'm pretty sure he would have beaten Phil the way he played yesterday. In match play all you can do is beat the player you are playing. There will always be upsets and it is who gets off to the hottest start. Idk what more you could have expected him to do. 4 up after 13 is pretty solid against anyone who qualified. You act like he is some chop. He is ranked top 65 in the WORLD.
Sneadjr59
Yea, I would say B too because of his amazing eagles!
Tpgolfer
I think you missed my point. I am saying that he doesn't look like he is 100% and he looked extremely forced and careful yesterday. Even his walking was ginger. I don't want to jinx him, but I just hope he is not coming back to soon just to please his sponsors.
