Well finally had a break in the weather had one day in the high 40's and tomorrow is going to be mid 50's here in MD and am thinking about playing. Probably a stupid question but can i damage my clubs when i strike one fat and catch more ground then ball. Im sure its going to feel like a heat wave but the ground probably still be hard as a rock. You guys think i should just hit the range????

sleepy_augusto
Biggest issue i've found is that stones appear as if from no where and leave nasty dings. Freezing the ground seems to bring up rocks. I suppose there might be some science to it, but I know not of it specifically, just observation.

I worry more about my wrists than my clubs when the ground is hard.

Enjoy the warm weather, very jealous.

I'd be weary when hitting off frozen ground. It will definitely mess with the lie angles of your irons, not to mention the negative impact on your wrists.

Oh please, you won't hurt your clubs. Steel is a little harder than frozen dirt.

Golf clubs are made to PLAY GOLF not to sit in a display case.

They are tools. No one is saying you should abuse them, but when you PLAY GOLF outdoors in varied conditions, they will get some dings and scuffs. So what?

PLAY GOLF with your golf clubs!!!

The lie angle is a good point though, if you have forged clubs in particular. No other concerns, really, other than normal use, but get your lie angles checked in the spring to make sure they didn't change.

I would get the lofts and lies checked when spring finally gets here other then that go hit some! I'm thinking about hitting a few balls here in MA today as well....think it's about 45*.

As said the lie angles may change a little but that also happens when you hit off the mats at the range. Plus, they will change over time anyway, even under normal conditions, depending on how many fat shots you hit. So, you should have them checked anyway on a regular basis.

Don't swing like you're chopping down a tree and you'll be fine. Enjoy your round! They're expecting the same warm weather up here in Jersey, but they're also expecting a bunch of rain. Oh well, next time...

Forget about the rocks...It's the frozen goose poop that destroys your clubs!

Dude, I almost fell off my chair laughing at the goose poop! clapping.gif

WTF.gif I'm amazed with this response.

First off, I didn't say his clubs were going to break. Its a well known fact that lie angles change over time anyway (as already stated), but hitting the rock hard ground trying to take a divot will have a more negative effect than taking a divot in nice unfrozen ground.

Display case? Who ever said anything about that? You should see my irons, chips and nicks all over the suckers from years of playing the ball as it lies. I said it will mess with the lie angles (which is a fact) and it might hurt his wrists (possible), not that he should stay home and admire his clubs in a case.
