I am looking for somewhere to stay and maybe play some good golf courses I am heading to the Masters.. I am looking to stay 1 hour or two north in NC or SC. I am also looking for quality golf for Saturday and Sunday. If anyone knows of a good place to stay and play golf let me know.

Off the top of my head I can't recall how far it it, but I know a lot of people stay in Columbia, SC.

Why not stay in Myrtle Beach? It may be just a bit further, but you'll have plenty of options and the rates won't be sky high.

If you're looking for a place to play, I hear there is a really great course in Augusta??? Something National???? It's not coming to me right now, it's very private though I think, there may even be a Pro tournament there sometime in April? jk

O man it's a long standing dream of mine to roam the grounds of Augusta National, I really wish I had an in with one of the members, but alas they are all 60+.

Columbia South Carolina 100%

We stayed there, played golf there and it was only about a 45-50 min drive to Augusta, another 20-30 mins to get into the parking lots off the highway.

We satyed at a real nice Holiday Inn Express I believe it was, beside a sweet sports bar, nice updated rooms and it only cost I think $110/night which is unreal during Master's Week.

We played 4 courses in Columbia:

Oak Hills
Forrest Lake
Wildewood and Woodcreek

All awesome courses but I believe 3 of them if not all 4 are private.

Several of the private courses have tee times open for visitors during Masters week. Just call around.

As mentioned, Columbia is probably your best bet. No chance of staying in Augusta unless you already have reservations, and really, why pay for it? Columbia is even the best place to fly into for the tournament if you're flying.

+1 for Columbia. I think we've even stayed at that same HI Express (lol). Like the other posts said, it's less than an hour drive plus whatever time it takes to deal w/ Masters traffic in Augusta. Prices are reasonable.

If you don't mind the drive (60 min), Columbia is the way to go. I stayed at a hotel next to the airport one night and one night in Aiken. The place in Aiken was over $250 and was less than "one star". The place in Colombia was brand new and half the cost.

We tried to find a place to play but could not find much.

Does anyone know of available ticket that are not from a broker? Tried Craiglist but there are all a bunch of scamers trying to get my ebay account info.

Charlotte, NC is 2 and a half hours north and there is plenty of good golf there.

I never said that I would make that drive. Besides, I've been to Augusta Nat'l twice already and I'll be happy to watch it on television. I think Augusta Nat'l and a NASCAR race have a lot in common: It's best to go see what the hubub is about so you can get the experience and you can always say that you've been there, but after that it's best watched on television, IMO.

The public golf in Charlotte is not that great to justify the drive.

Reynolds Plantation is worth the splurge if you can swing it, will be expensive during Masters week, not sure if it's already booked up.

IMO the nice thing about Charlotte is that it's just far enough that courses and hotels won't jack up their prices just because it's Masters week. While I agree that I wouldn't necessarily drive back and forth, but if you are going to the Masters for one day, I think it's well worth it (that was my place to stay the day before and after last year and is again this year as well).
