Just curious to get some feedback from some fellow players like myself. If someone at your club was willing to take the time to organize and run registration for a two day stoke play tournament on a Sat. & Sunday for a group of say 20 of the better players at your club for a $50 registration fee, making a total purse of $1,000, full cash payout for low two round total.
Fromat would be registration at 8:00-8:30am. Groups of three randomly drawn going off the first tee starting at 9:00, and following every 10 min. Day two would be same going off at 9:00am with the highest rounds going off first to low going off last in groups of three. Payout on the top three based on a 20 player field would be first $650 second $225 and third $125. No handiecapping just the lowest two round totals.
For me at my club this would be something that could be easily put together and facilitated. So would this be something you would like to see or would play in at your own club? The idea would be to have something like this every two-three weekends.
I really need the snow to melt I am going stir crazy, and want to start playing some Tournament golf!!

Count me out. I'd be ticked too, because you were clogging up the course every other weekend for two days.

As long as it's a fully private course with mostly members that play every weekend and as long as times are still going out after the "tournament"
As long as your not taking tee times away from members this would work.
At most semi private courses this could work but maybe only 12 players if that.
At a public course no way no way no way would they ever allow this unless your paying a "tournament fee" which usually includes paying for carts, driving range, food, etc.

It's a semi private, and I am the Vice President of the board of directors. So yes tee times would be going out before 9:00, and I would just book in threesomes from 9:00 to about 10:15 , and then other bookings would be going out after us, I think in groups of three there wouldn't be any trouble keeping pace of play going. This wouldn't be something that the club would have much to do with just the cooperation on tee times, and maybe sending people off the back at that time which wouldn't be a problem with my club. So it wouldn't be any different than any other day for people who were not involved. Blocking out an hour off the first tee would not be a problem.
But booking aside is the idea of the Tournament appealing to low cappers?

So the $50 would be in addition to the greens and/or cart fee? Are there 20 guys at your club that think they could win? At most clubs the same 3 or 4 guys would win each time.

I would say that any 15 could win at anytime, also all are full members so no green fees.

the issue is the green fee unless its private, or if semi-private, have another amount for non-members...
But I would not be shy... I think you could attract more players at a $100 buy in and great pay out...

The pro at the club would have nothing to do with this i assume? You would do the scoring and pairings.

That would be awesome. I could even see a 2 day 16 player match play.
Buy in $100
Saturday Morning 4 groups of 4
Saturday Afternoon 2 groups of 4
Sunday Morning 2 groups of 2
Sunday afternoon Championship and 3/4 place match
That would only take up 10 tee times in 2 days and the purse would be $1600
Winner- $1000
Runner up- $300
3rd- $200
4th-$100

Ya it would be nothing more than a glorified sat morning game that we already have with a large majority of the guys, it would have no affiliation with the club or pro. Just a little more organized with myself doing the pairings and collecting of score cards. I agree that $100 would be a greater payoff but would want to keep it affordable for some guys who don't have a big golfing budget.
Ya I thought of throwing in a match play event if there was interest, and your format is a good one.

I like the idea.
The match play format would be real cool!
How does the amateur prize money limit factor in here?

It factors in by keeping it quiet and operating in cash

What's the membership at your club like, memberwise? I would definately be up to following a few of those groups around. I would, however, suggest lowering the number from 50 competitors though. It just seems like a bit much for every few weeks..

It wouldn't be a field of 50, It's a field of 20ish guys the entry would be $50. The membership is pretty diverse just under 300 members.

Why does it have to be so formal?
We do this every week, only everyone throws in $20. We usually have 12-20 people. Sometimes it will be $10 Stableford + $10 Skins with verification.
The club has nothing to do with it and we get our own tee times. I don't think the club would help organize a cash event. Club sponsored tournaments always have Proshop credit, not cash.

We also have a group of 10-15 guys we do a Friday night skins game too, the reason I would like to do the formal thing is to have a two round tournament, and have the payouts worth more than $50-$60 bucks, just a little more to play for. The Club wouldn't be involved like I had said before, it would just be a matter of booking about an hour off the first tee, as like I said being the VP of the Board this isn't a problem.
Just need the snow to melt here then it's
