2009 - 3 events, one missed cut already, low finishes (money total $30K for the year) ... Tour standing 136th.

Is there some injury that hasn't become public or something? I don't like the guy that much, but he has been one of the few consistant serious contenders (and can do some amazing short game magic at times).

Phil fans ... what's the deal? Is this temporary? Or is there some serious problem going on here?

dunno. do know, if this keeps up harmon will drop him saying he's not committed or something

It is a little unusual...especially considering the fact that he usually starts the year pretty strong.

Doesn't bother me though, i'd rather see young guys like Kim, Villegas, Sergio, Scott, etc. step up their game. I'm over Phil...

to many possibilities to really even think about it and no one except phil has a chue as to what is wrong.

what i do know is that he has the snap hooks. bad.

on the par 3 where he yanked it OB (and OB was like 40 yards right of the green, so we're talking big yank with a mid iron), his body stopped rotating very early in the downswing and the clubface just slammed shut. i'm really starting to question harmon if he doesn't see phil's problems.

He just looks like he doesn't care anymore. The guy only wants to win majors. It's like other events don't intrigue him anymore. Couple that with the fact he has had 3 different driver combos and 2 iron combos in those 3 events, I'd say the state of his game is in chaos. He needs to chill out for a few weeks then come back. But I think he's playing this week too.

After taking the advice of Pelz to ridiculous levels last year, I'd wager he doesn't even want to win majors.

Something seems to be wrong. Pelz had him doing some interesting stuff (two drivers, no driver etc.) and I sure hope it didn't get wackier than that.

I'd guess its just some winter rust and he'll get it knocked off pretty quick. He's never seemed to me to have that killer instinct that Tiger and some others seem to have where they just thrive on the competition and the stage. Still Phil has a lot of talent, so I hope he comes around quick.

I think he's trying to hit everything too hard. Hes trying to draw everything to get extra yardage when he needs to get back to the knockdown and punches that he hits so well.

I thought I heard on the telecast that he was trying to make a swing change with his leg drive. I think its pretty hard to make a swing change when you have that much movement in your swing.

i heard he was practicing right handed.... suppose to switch over for 2010... this way he will have more club options...

On the Golf Channel I saw (i think) Brandel Chamblee telestrate his swing where he hit the 5-iron OB right. Phil was way, way off plane - too flat going back and much too steep coming down. It was remarkable to see a guy with that much talent so discombobulated. I also thought, hmmm Butch Harmon, eh?

Maybe he should put back on the weight he lost? He played better when he was heavier.... clapping.gif

This is just opinion so don't flame me; however, I really think that Pelz may be the issue. In watching Phil play, he appears to be thinking too much and in so is misplaying both short-game and putting.

In the past he was so fantastic to watch him make tons of flop shots, drain 30-foot putts, knock shots down to a couple of feet. His game was suited better as a feel player and I think that Pelz with his technical NASA data may have taken the feel out of his game.

I would say that Phil should wait until after the Masters, if things don't dramatically improve he should get rid of Pelz and get back to being a feel player.
