Am I the only one that finds that there less and less golf shown in 09 tournaments and more scenic shots, scoreboard summery and interviews than actual golf play! I live in Montreal Canada and we get French golf coverage from US feeds and the French commentators actually said " Where the golf!!! " . I cancelled my subscription to Golf digest and Golf world and I'm actually considering calling my cable provider and cutting the golf channel off.

When I watch Football on TV I don't see a sea otter for 45 seconds and then a full shot of the scoreboard for another minute than hear we will be back after these messages than back to look at 3 foot putt then back to the otter!!! I see football then commercial then football again!!! Am I the only one who think this way?

Sorry for being so frustrated cabin fever a I guess!!

I hear ya...

I couldn't even hardly watch the tournament this past weekend because ALL they show are these horrible celebrity amateurs and they hardly ever show the PROFESSIONALS!!

And then, they show the leaderboard of the teams more often than they show the ACTUAL LEADERBOARD!!

very frustrating.

I'm actually looking forward to Tiger coming back because you know they'll show every single practice swing, shot, putt, etc. of his. I'd rather watch that then a sea lion sitting on a rock for 3 minutes.

It always seems to be that way at Pebble Beach with the 'stars' playing! That doesn't bother me nearly as much as the never-ending deluge of Cialis commercials. I'm sure glad that I don't have young children around to have to explain that every time golf is on!

Yes, that is exactly what is going on. I like the Asian and European tour coverage of golf.
I don't know what the Golf Channel and the networks are thinking!
MrJones
I fully agree. Last weekend they only showed the top 2 guys, Phil, DL III, and however was finishing up on 18. I know there was a lot more golf being played than that.

Yesterday I watched my 3 hours of DVR'd LPGA final day. By skipping comercials and non golf (interviews, medical reports, weather reports) I was able to watch it in about an hour.

And what's the young female Rookie Stacy ???? I feel like I've spent enough time looking at her back x-rays that I could perform the surgery myself if I needed to.

All this seems like they're trying to make the coverage more interesting while in fact I think they're turning most of us off.

Was watching the Lady's on saturday night. Ya, I know, I don't have a life. So I too was getting impatient with the coverage. Put the channel on the clock. For the fifteen minute segment that I timed, ten minutes of the coverage was something other than golf. Only five of the minutes were actual golf coverage.
I don't know about anyone else but I consider that just very poor coverage of the subject matter. The other ten minutes were commercials (OK gotta have them), talk about the local area, the resort, the wildlife, someones family, etc.

The coverage is bad, but at the att its a 6 hour round so there isnt much going on anyways. The celebrities are giving interviews and signing autographs most of the time. I also noticed that the few seconds that golf was shown it was at pebble. Whats the deal with that, why couldnt they show spyglass and poppy more.

That's why I'm giving TGC one more chance!

I hope someone from those network realize that we love golf and love watching it (especially those from behind shots, in HD those are amazing) and they should realize that when Tiger's not around there only hope to attract viewers is to show shots like Goydos up and down's or Garagus drives not DL3 or Phil missing 3 footers!!!

Its funny you said that. I've been getting into the Euro Tour coverage. All they show is pretty much golf. If you lucky enough to have time in the mornings, its a quality program.

Nice summary frank. I cannot agree with you more (even being a leaf fan i have to agree smile.gif ). I grew frustrated lately, not just pebble, with interview that go on an on, showing the announcers talking, the scenic shots. I love your sea otter comment.
I think i saw shots of seals about 5 times once in a 5 minute span.
I never even saw the winner the whole entire tournament? I maybe saw a handful, if that, of his. Mike weir? I think i saw two swings. Guy finishes second, played three rounds...and i saw two swings?
sad coverage.

I had enough a few weeks ago at the Hope when they showed a 15 minute segment of Arnie talking to Faldo and the cut rate Jimmy Roberts. There were two full commercial segments, a recap of what happened on the Euro tour for the 10th time and 10 mins of talking heads. During this - there was a change near the top of the leader board if I recall. All this when the leaders were on the back 9 on Sunday...

I wrote to the Golf Channel and PGA Tour about the above situation and even asked if it was more expensive somehow to show golf shots... That would make sense - do they have to pay PGA licensing fees for actual shots or is satellite time more expensive for golf shots than talking heads? ;-)

Anyway here is the PGA Tour's response:
