ive been watching golf and counting on the best players in the world to score points for me in fantasy golf. with AK and Phil possibly the best to watch, what have we been given this year. with the absence of TIGER, the broadcasters havent been able to put much stock in the golden players in the field.
what are the chances TIGERS com back will fall flat? if this were to happen i think the WORLD economy will never recover. im only kidding but will golf fall on even harder times if the most entertining draw little interest. with the exception of the rubber necking and train wreck viewers.

Tiger coming back flat?????? Not unless the real Tiger was taken away by aliens and a less-than-Tiger-like Tiger was put in his place. That sounds pretty funny, actually. A Tiger than played like Phil and was equally entertaining...
golfrnmdbucky
yeah, First off a congrats is in order to Tiger and his wife for having their second child a few days ago, Second, I highly doubt him coming back to the game until he is absolutely sure he can/will win, he is too much of a competitor to come back if he is not going to win
Skaffa77
You know, I'm actually half-way expecting him to have a couple rusty rounds upon his return. Not saying he won't prep and be absolutely ready, but it can be hard after a long absence.

Also, I don't want to get my hopes up too high (until he's had a couple tournaments)...I think there are a lot of high expectations for his return (including my own) and that can lead to a big let down. I'd like to give him a few tournaments to warm-up and then see him pull off a Masters victory!
celts5407
I dont think Tiger will come back until he works off all his rust. He is not the type of person to return when he isnt in top form.
bgolfing
Like Phil? Have not heard one word of his sub-volcanic-subcutaneous-too many burgers body.
TM golf guy 182
It won't happen. I bet he wins one of his first 3 starts. Tiger won't come back until he is ready to be Tiger.
leaningtiger
Tiger can come back flat and still school all the boys out there now. I don't think he will show too much rust. I'm predicting three majors this year.

PM has given up. He'll never be #2 again, in fact he's slowly making his way outside the top ten. What say he's on the European Tour in 2010/2011? He was certainly considering moving his family outside The States.
Don't get me wrong - I like the guy. He was very good to everyone over here for the last couple of visits. In public he is charming and considerate. But his motivation and, therefore, his game is going south.

Come back fast, Tiger, and take on the guys who are still hungry.

If tiger comes back flat, he will still end up winning. The guy is a winner and he has the skill and knowledge to play and win.

Tiger always exceeds expectations!

I would not bet against him contending, but not winning his first time back (just getting the feel for competition again), and then going into Augusta and winning.....BIG!!!!

My dad is an orthopedic surgeon and knows quite a bit about what was done for Tiger's knee and he says that so long as it's given time to heal (which Tiger has given it in plenty) he's going to come back and be even better than before. This sentiment is supported by the fact both Haney and O'Meara have recently said that Tiger looks better than he ever has.

My bet is he's going to come back and win his first start, particularly if it's the Accenture Match Play. And watch out at Augusta, he doesn't take 2nd place finishes very well...

When Tiger comes back, the only thing flat
will be his belly.

Uh, you ever see the look on Tiger's face when he is marching down the fairway? Wow. He will NOT be flat. AK and Phil are good, but we shall what happens when the true master of the course returns.
mosesgolf
No rust when he comes back. Rust is for guys like us who play once or twice per month.

Just watch last nights Golf Central show from the Golf Channel and you will know not to ask such questions in the future. Tiger was playing a round at his home course (Isleworth) with John Cook recently. On a driveable par 4, Tiger took one of those hellishly fast rips at the ball. According to the GC report, there was a moment of silence before Cook asked if he was alright...Tiger turned to him quickly and said in that confident Tiger voice with that boyish Tiger grin..."never better."

Yes ... Tiger has always had remarkable talent, and a fairly amazing work ethic ... but I've always thought the thing he has that elevates him above the pack is this almost absurd level of focus. He gets a look in his eye that is almost frightening.

It is that focus that wins tournaments. It is stronger even than his talent, or work out routines. (Focus alone is the only thing that could have won that last major - that required five full days of play - with an injury that would have had most people just withdraw after the second).

His golf may be a bit rusty for a tournament or two (I'm sure he'll practice, but playing rounds with a couple of friends and coaches is different than the intensity of tour competition) ... but I do not think his physical injuries even remotely affected that focus (well, except that it appeared to strengthen it even more).

The spooky thing is that as winning as he was in his 20's, he really only seemed to be coming into his own in the past couple of years ... not unusual - a lot of the world's best golfers don't really hit their stride until their 30's ... it is when talent and ability have experience and judgement added. Last couple of years (after the swing changes gelled) he seemed to be ready to take his game to a whole different level ... wining close to half the tourneys he played in ... (which is almost unheard of). And now we've found out that these injuries were probably bothering him for quite awhile ... he was winning all those tourneys with a left leg he was afraid to fully plant.

I almost can't imagine what that talent, and focus, and experience combined with a leg that is now solid is going to produce.

Whether it happens in his first or second start doesn't really matter much to me.

That said, I have enjoyed his absence ... seeing other golfers getting more airtime. I was wondering which of the young bucks would pick up their games with Tiger's shadow temporarily absent. It has been great to watch AK, and Villegas really elevate their games.

But I'm ready for Tiger to come back. Love him or hate him, he really is (IMO) the essence of the modern game.
Buzzkill
Not going to happen so it's kind of hard to imagine the impossible.
sandy
Flat or not he can't play any worse than Phil and to some extent AJ. Both have started 09 like duds.
nellaad
True, I don't think he will stay that way for long though, that is the thing about tiger!

I dont see phil ever physically running.
Swingie
The coolest thing about Tiger is that being 'flat' really isnt an option - his course management is dam near ingrained in his DNA allowing him to make the best of what hes got that day. So if he only manages 2-3 under per round in the tough feilds he plays he still has a chance. Dont forget Tiger has been practicing putting with new fervor and claims hes more locked in with the flat stick than ever.....look out tour, rusty or not
Ronzo
Even if he were to do that, I think the Tiger Intimidation Factor would cause a great number of Tour pros to roll over and play for second place.

For that matter, one in particular appears to have started that already. wink.gif

If Tiger comes back flat, then Phil Mickelson doesn't have man boobies. Not a chance he comes back flat. The guy beat the world's best golfers on a gimp leg, over the course of 5 days. Well, I hope he doesn't come back flat...watching golf on tv would be pretty darn boring then...

Whilst I can't imagine his comeback falling flat, the minimum that Tiger needs to do is tie for first in his first tournament, and then win the US Open...........oh, hello Mr. Hogan!! wink.gif

You might have stepped slightly over the "man love" line with those comments.......... man_in_love.gif

If we've learned anything it's that Tiger can spray it all over creation on a busted leg and still win the most difficult tournament on tour...

He will not have lost his short game/putting or mental game.
