Yesterday, it was the first weekend in months that any of the reasonably close public courses were open since Thanksgiving. Despite the fact it was barely above freezing (and Windy), I was unable to get on SHennecossett because they were FULL. EVERY SINGLE SPOT was taken for the entire day

Faced with months of cabin fever, I headed south to the Bronx for 18 holes on the first public golf course in the United States with a new plan.
1. Drop off wife in Manhattan with a credit card (a seriously bad plan);
2. Drive back to the Bronx and get in 18;
3. Pick up wife and drive to Brooklyn for real Mexican food.

The Round: I got paired with three Dominican guys. Only one of whom spoke much English. Luckily, they were very nice and I know enough Spanish we had a lot of fun. I learned how to pronous Birdie with Bronx-Domican Accent. Trust me - it would be great on TV.

Odd Thoughts:
1. If your ball lands in a bunker and there is "standing ice" in the bottom, do you treat it as casual water?
2. If you sink a 20 foot putt accross the fairway to a temporary green, does it count as the first birdie of the season?
3. Does every goose in the United States go to NYC to poop? My birdie putt took a least two swerves do to the crap between me an the hole.

BTW - sorry about the spelling errors.

Fantastic story; great job of overcoming the elements and playing the game. What is it with golf courses and Canadian geese? Do they just like the large expanse of green in the middle of the city?
