I put together this video a couple weeks back and put it up on youtube for the heck of it. This winter has driven me to do different golf related projects, including paintfilling clubs, marking up the dozens of golf balls I have, doing golf course sketches, and making this video. I'm not the most prolific movie maker out there.

That's a sweet video.

You played last year correct? Any word on when the course will reopen after the 2009 Open? Wanna take my dad on a trip down there this year.

Nice video, I love the "Warning Bethpage Black is a very difficult course" picture.
Tmiller72
Nice. Hopefully I'll be playing it in June. At least I'm gonna try like I do every year.

Might be tough to get on in June, there is some kind of big tournament there tease.gif

that might make the lines pretty big for the rest of the summer.

I'll be down there waiting with ya tho!!

Nice work Rocky. Went to the infamous Friday round in 02' when it poured all day. Course would have been Tillie's best had he finished the greens and not the local firm that made them pancake flat. Still shocked Jones did nothing to address that when he got the job to prepare the layout for the Open. Anyway, I digress ... great pics, love the music too.

Haha, I've got a handful of options, but can't make up my mind. Its the usual "these ones I know like me, but I want to see how it goes with this other one first..."

Italianstallion, Great Video.

To Tmiller72 and Iteachgolf, how will we know it's you playing in the Open if you do qualify.

If you try and make it make sure to let us know so we can root you on.
tyorke1
This will be my third year in a row, I can't wait to see if they play the new tees, I will be there the last week before it closes, when ever that is.

Clean up on aisle 5.....come on guys, knock off the nonsense. Stick to the topic and/or be nice, or don't post. No one cares about the graphite shaft argument.

I believe a lot of people know my name but trust me there will be a thread about it if I qualify.

Great video, Stallion!!! Skinny might be right, though, about the girl friend. They are great thing to have in the winter, anyways - Golf season, I am not so sure about that....

I believe it opens mid April and closes the last week of May. It's only playable for 6 weeks before they close it for the Open. They also have cut the number of available tee times in half. They don't want the course getting too much play prior to the Open. Bottom line... get there the afternoon before and camp out in parking spot number 1, or know someone who can get a tee time for you.

I will play at least once prior to the tourney... can't wait!

I just posted this video on my Facebook profile...so who needs a girlfriend now? lol

How do tee times work at Bethpage? Other than obviously camping out to play?

1.If you are a NY resident you can call 7 days in advance... it never works though. The best tee times are always booked. If you are a single you usually get stuck with the last tee time of the day when done that way... and the rounds are SLOW. I've played twice out of the last tee time, and both times I didn't finish.

2.If you just go there 1st thing in the morning as a single and wait around chances are you can play. But, I doubt that will be the case this year for obvious reasons.

3.You have to know someone.

4.Camp out in your car and enjoy the scenery.

I actually enjoyed the "Camping out" experience alot for some reason. Putted around on the green by the 1st tee until 10pm when there was nobody in sight, then headed back to the car for some food and a DVD on my laptop. I'll try it again in May. The automatic phone tee time system is a royal PITA, plus I'd rather do the 3 hour drive and get down there the day before I play, not the day I play.

Yeah, make the best out of the camping. I made the trip last August with my brother. We ended up bringing a case of beer and some brauts to throw on our mini grill. A little night golf on the Yellow course helped pass the time as well wink.gif

How's the Red Course to get on?

I'm thinking of going for a weekend trying to play the Red Course one morning and then camping out for the black course.

I think Bethpage is one of the courses like Pebble where a pro card won't get you on is that correct or does anyone know how they treat CPGA or PGA Professionals there? Maybe I can get a time that way.

What's your favorite hole there? I like the opening hole dog leg right. It gives you the impression that carrying the dogleg is shorter than it really is. So a lot guys end up playing from the right hand rough. It also has the best green on the course, and one of a small few with adequate character for a a layout of that caliber.

I was a victim of that carry. However I pushed my tee shot a hair black eye.gif

Aside from the obvious holes like 4 and 17, I really liked 5, 6, 10, 11, 16. The fifth hole is a great view from the tee box, fairway cuts to the right and the green cuts back to the left a little perched ontop of a hill surrounded by bunkers.

I like the sixth hole because you don't need to hit driver, nice solid fairway wood or hybrid up between the two fairway bunkers and you've got a great look coming down at the green surrounded by bunkers.

10th I got a birdie on so I'm a bit biased, but I love how you have to be really long and accurate with the tee shot to have a decent look at the green which is surrounded by bunkers. Needs an high aerial shot.

11th I loved the view from the tee, you can't see a sliver of fairway because of all the bunkers. Even with a decent drive you still have a good clip to the very undulating green.

And the 16th looks awesome from high on the hill. Fairway cuts left then back to the right.

Obviously I'm a huge fan of the monster par 4s. Not use to that where I'm from. I'm use to the whole driver, wedge play on par 4s around here.

5th is my vote for 2nd best hole. Usually I wouldn't put a hole that bestial so high but that's a beauty with the constant diagonal right slant of the fairway, the bunkering which protects the right carry route, the green that is perched on a hill to the left, with trees protecting the left side of the green too.
