Boo's pretty funny sometimes. Here is a radio interview I heard on the way down to Pebble.

It's quite a crack up, he caps on Pebble Beach's greens, puts a total stranger on the phone, then gets cut off apparently due to some profanity. Classic stuff.

If golf fans want a man of the people, then forget John Daly, he's done, Boo's the current choice.

I have been hearing about Boo and his golf game for 15 years or so,
down in our part of the country, know many people who play golf with him
when he's home and can say that he is true to his reputation, a true friend
to the people around him, and a great guy.
Warning -- If you can't stand the answer, don't ask him the question.

The man is great. I love watching him get interviewed. I wouldn't compare him to Daly though, since Boo seems to be able to keep it together off the course. He's quickly become one of my favorites.

+1 zillion. I know that wasn't what was inferred earlier, but I have heard this comparison, and it couldn't be further from the truth. Boo is absolutely no Daly. Drives me nuts when I hear people say that. He is so much more together than Daly ever was, and a much more complete player.

I agree. Boo's a stand up guy. If you catch his interviews he always address's people with ma'am....sir. Real gentleman. Great shot in the arm for the tour, plus he can play.

I don't think it is a secret that JD started as a fan favorite because he strikes everyone as just a genuine down to earth guy who didn't come up playing out of the best country clubs with a trust fund. I'm not saying every one on tour is like that but certainly there is your sterotypical image of a professional golfer held by fans who are not serious golfers. Someone like JD comes along as the antithesis and fans go nuts. You see it in many sports where the success of the common man captures the casual fan.

That is where the similarity begins and ends with Boo. Boo breaks the mold of the stereotypes but thankfully conducts himself without issue off the course. He's real and fans embrace that. In that sense, nothing wrong with being compared to JD. If Boo ends up with a fan base which is second only to Tiger, that's great for golf.

Why the comparison to John Daly? Because he is a "redneck"?

And whoever said the comment about being a more complete player than Daly may want to wait on that. Dont forget what Daly has accomplished in his professional career. His off the course drama has clouded some of your minds, but Daly was and might still be an excellent golfer. Ask Tiger.

+1 John Daly has won two majors, he is not a crappy golfer.

And now that Boo is going to wear a hat colored in camo/hunting orange for the Master's, why not shorts and jeans?

Not sure anybody said Daly was a 'crappy' golfer, or at least I missed it if they did. I may be wrong, but I don't think you'll ever see Boo shooting mid-80's in tournaments, like Daly has numerous times, not just once here and there. That's what I meant by being a more complete golfer - maybe consistent would have been a better word choice, but you get my drift.

As far as 'why' the comparison to Daly, I guess it is the redneck thing that keeps that going. Personally I don't see that big of a comparison, they are very different personalities and golfers.

I'm a fan because he is what he is an golf can't change him...sure he dresses accordingly to the game but the camo under armour (or whatever) is classic and he plays for the fun of it...you can tell
