Boy, that's a shame to hear. I always liked to see him play and thought that he added to the diversity of the Champions Tour. You know, a real character.
I hope that he has enough money to pay these fines and not have to change his life altogether. But, if you aren't willing to pay the taxes, don't do things that might get you caught. Like start a business, build a huge house.
I guess the fairways are fair now. Everybody should pay their taxes, and if you think you're paying too much, then seek out the advice of someone that get them reduced through the tax laws.
I sure hope Tiger and Phil are paying their taxes, cause this kinda thing is a real image buster.

I certainly am a proponent of "screw the government" especially in this latest incarnation, but there are laws in place that must be either obeyed, or properly changed. And in the event that Thorpe is successfully prosecuted, he can only then be branded as a thief. That would make him a criminal, and there's nothing admirable about that.

I met Jim Thorpe a few years back at a Champions Tour event here in Mass, the man is nothing but a gentleman, he talked to everyone and signed autographs, actually I felt bad when my fiance asked for his autograph because he had his hands full with golf balls and his putter, but he still stopped and signed.

I hate it for anyone to have to deal with the IRS, however, it is doubtful that the criminal charges are the first notice he had of the issue. Most likely Thorpe was aware of the alleged liability and either contests it or can't pay. Please remember-failure to pay is CIVIL, failure to file a return is CRIMINAL. He not only didn't pay his taxes, he didn't file returns. Bad situation.

I've had this sentiment for years. No matter which side ur on. they're all crooks.
We need a new George Washington to chop down that tree we call government. Maybe then we can start over. Until then, our government will continue to spiral downward taking all the piss and sh**t they created, and everyone and the world with it.
Thats why Obama has that drawn look on his face now. He realizes were all in the shi*ter and the Gov is closing the lid and pulling the handle!

Again, you're seeing more and more of the reasons I don't like my government.
They purposely do things of this nature to make an example out of a person when they can get the most publicity for it, that way no one else dares not give the money they earned through hard work to the government so they can hand it out to people who didn't do a damn thing to earn it.
And with the pork laden "stimulus" bill going through congress, get ready to have even more taken.
