I've been trying to integrate sunglasses in my game. I'm a graduate student so all the reading is taking enough of a toll on my eyes that I really need to take care of them on the course. I've played in Natives, Oakley 5's, Smith factor max, and now Smith Reactor Max. I am fully aware of the virtues and curses of polarized vs non-polarized lenses as well as different tints but I have yet to come across a pair of glasses that don't distort my depth perception. For this posting, I would like a discussion of lens materials, structure, and optical correctness. Is there anyone out there who has played in glass, nxt, g39, and polycarbonate? I've heard that these materials offer different levels of optical clarity. My largest concern is finding a company that has mastered the wrap lens in a way that offers an optically correct view through the lens, only then will the tints and coating matter.

Oh, if that Jeff Burgess guy gets on here trying to sell vedalo sunglasses every other post, I'm not going to be happy! Ha!

I would look into Kaenon's SR91 lens material. It has optical clarity similar to glass/CR39, but with impact resistance of Poly. They have done a great job with the Hard Kore model with different lens tints and a great fit. The SR91 is built with sandwich construction, but has better polarization efficiency due to the material of the lens. Great glasses and I haven't noticed distortion with my Hard Kore or Basis pairs.

And I was never thrilled with the Oakley 5. It was an OK glass at a price point. I would try the Radar or Flak Jacket. They both have great optics with minimal distortion. The Radar was my main glass last year.

Wow, thanks for the quick reply! It seems that Kaenon and Oakley have the market cornered on sunglasses that don't distort depth perception. I'll keep my eye out for some to try on and purchase for sure!

Not to thread-jack, but does the same hold true with prescription lenses. Specifically, when I golf with prescription lenses I'd like to be sure the ball and target are where my corrected eyes are telling me they are without having to make any (subconscious) compensation. cool.gif

Kaenon was actually started by the guy who put Oakley on the map in golf way back when. Kaenon's are definitely the best lens out there - they have one-upped Oakley's now-old lens technology.

I started wearing Rudy Project, which makes a golf-specific polycarbonate lens. Optical clarity and protection are excellent.
I can't say anything for durability as I've only had them for one season, but so far, so good.

Look in their "Golf Series" line.

good for you for taking care of your eyes, but you are not ever going to find what you are looking for. All sunglasses distort your view, and there is nothing you can do about it. There's a reason everyone on tour takes off their glasses to putt.

I have sunglasses from every company, and you just get used to seeing what you can see, and taking them off sometimes to double check.

Check out Tifosi Optics. I wore them on tour for the last two years. Great optical quality, no distortion, lots of styles and many with interchangeable lenses. Great stuff.

I just have a little input the best thing which has been already stated is to wear whatever you like also I have found that my perception is only off when I take the sunglasses off. I would highly suggest Maui Jim if you are looking for light weight they are pretty good about getting the script in the wraps. Another company that is very good with optics is Costa Del Mar. Just the thought of a humble optician.
