I searched for this answer on my rule book but I was not successful to find it. I'm confused about this rule. I have seen people get penalties if the ball moves while they are putting but yesterday I think Pat's ball moved when he was chipping.
It was one of the last holes and his ball was on the fringe behind the green. He put his club behind it twice before he hit it and ball clearly moved before he hit it.
Is the rule different when the ball is not on the green?

This has been posted quite a bit since yesterday, and I believe the ball oscillated and returned to its original position. If it had completely moved rather than oscillated, there could very well be a penatly.

Thanks for the link, for some reason I couldn't find it in the search.

I saw that and thought the same thing. The ball was lying up on some matted grass in the rough. He grounded the club in the rough behind the ball. The grass moved along with the ball.

If anything he might be guilty of improving his lie, but I don't think the ball moved.

Body Visions,
The ball moved clearly. But please go to the link above where everyone discuss this alrady. The ball moved but came back to it's original position, so it's ok. That's what I read there.
