Hi, I am volunteering for the U.S. Open in June for the first time. I'm trying to figure out what my schedule should be for that week, work-wise that is. I was wondering if volunteers are allowed to come on their days off to just watch the tournament? I have heard that you can but I'm not totally sure. Does anyone whose ever volunteered before know? Thanks.

Im volunteering for the Memorial Tournamnet here in Columbus and the way it works here is that if you work over 12 hours then you get a week long badge. The badge will get you in for all practice rounds and Thursday-Sunday plus Monday Playoff if needed in your case.

However, you need to request your schedule early becuase the good days and times will fill up fast. If you have to work on Sunday, request an early morning shift so you can catch the leaders coming down the stretch in the afternoon/evening when you get off.

Just curious. Do you know what area your going to be working in?

I worked at the open at Torrey last summer. You only have a few 4 hour shifts maybe 4, and the entire rest of week is yours to go about as you want. I signed up for player shuttle and evacuation committee. We were hardley used. The weather outlook was perfect so they said go watch the tourney, no threat of lightening so we were not needed. As far as the shuttle, players all had lexus cars, so in two days I only took a couple wives and couple players down the street to hotels. We were stationed in a hotel as well, that was kinda cool seeing Vijay, Calc, Craig Parry, and some hot wives wandering about. They really stock up on volunteers, so some are not quite needed. When you got that volunteer badge you go any time you want.......they even have food and massage tents for volunteers....

No, its just that I signed up literally almost 2 years before hand. Bring very comfy shoes, Torrey was a bear to walk around. Personally I can sit at the range for hours and watch them hit......

At the US Open at Torrey Pines a friend of mine was a Grounds Crew Volunteer and they were able to watch all the golf they wanted when not on shift, worked inside the ropes, took tons of pictures and on Sunday they got their pictures taken with Tiger and the Trophy. My buddy missed out on the pictures because he was scheduled to come home Sunday morning. I believe they even had tee times set up on Monday for Volunteers that wanted to play.
Now this is for the Grounds Crew, and he was selected out of however many people apply, so the regular volunteers may not get the same perks.
He said it was the time of his life.

I just signed up to be a volunteer for the 2010 US Senior Open to be at Sahalee Country Club in Redmond, WA. The course is less than 2 miles from where I live..

This is the first time I have ever voluntereed for a tourney..

enjoy the time.. If i was you I would try to free up your work schedule as much as possible...but thats just my golf fanatic mind speaking

Don't feel bad I have the same regrets not volunteering much less attending the 2007 PGA.
