Hello All,

I am heading out to Vegas in July and would like to play a few rounds.

I am going up to Wolf Creek for 1 day and would like to play 1 or 2 more rounds. Where are the best places to play closer to Vegas and how are the rates in July?

Thanks!
ghromas
whoa- SO MANY great tracks out there. it depends on how much you want to spend. some of the best include shadow creek, cascata, reflection bay (may be in foreclosure), rio secco, wolf- paiute course, tpc canyons, the wynn etc. you can save a bit if you play bali hai (right next to the airport), or royal links, bear's best, and courses like that. shadow and wynn have hotel rules.

the top courses can be btwn 250 and 500 pp, but given how badly their economy is suffering, they may be lowering rates or be open to negotiation. might as well try!
emh181
Well I would like to keep it under $500 a round. I know the deal w/ Shadow and Wynn, but I have others coming with me and don't expect them to pay $500.

Wolf Creek is only $65 after 12:30pm that time of year.
ghromas
ah gotcha. badlands is much more affordable and not bad at all. given you'll be there in july, you prob can get good deals on royal links or desert pines too.

Check out Paiute, 3 Pete Dye designs. On protected lands, so you are out in the middle of the desert. Not cheap, but better than Shadow and the Wynn!

Angel Park, has two 18 hole tracks that are well groomed, if you want to do 36 in a day replays are dirt cheap, nice staff as well. They also have a fun little par 3 course that is under the lights, can make for a great place to have a few drinks with the pals after too.

Actually, the Mountain course is in terrible shape with dead greens. The Palm course is a short par 70 course that is in great shape now, but really these courses are nothing special and slightly better than muni courses for the area.

Ahh... I just booked the mountain course yesterday. My wife and I are going to Vegas in 2 weeks time .
And I wanted to book a course she wouldn't get beat up on. When was last time you played it.
Thanks gb

Last time I was there was almost a year ago, so ya things could have changed since then, it was in good shape last Feb./March

Good call. Play the Wolf Course.
showtime212
TPC,Reflections Bay,and its sisters course i can't think of the name off hand, great places to play. the views are amazing.
Golfinnova
That would be The Falls which is in bankruptcy proceedings.

Since the temperatures get into the 110 range, rates will be cheap. I played Reflection Bay last July and while it is a nice venue, the course gets pretty beat up during the summer.

IMO, the Palm course at Angel Park is much better than the Mountain course. I second the recommendation for Paiute, along with Bear's Best, Boulder Creek (which is the best value in Vegas anytime), and Primm Valley.

Given the economy, courses will have to drop their rates dramatically as the hotels have already dropped their rates 20%.

If your heading to Mesquite to play Wolf Creek last year a few of my golfing buddies (16) were able to get a stay and play package for around $350 a person. We stayed at the Eureka Hotel/ Casino and played:

Oasis - Palmer Course
Wolf Creek
Falcon Ridge

And of course Wolf Creek was the best but Falcon Ridge wasnt to bad either.

Hello All,

I have looked over many of the courses in the Las Vegas area and am now trying to finalize my choice. We are going to make the trip up to Wolf Creek one day and would like to play two more rounds.

What 2 courses would you choose out of the following? Feel free to add any if I am missing out on a good one.

Wolf Paiute
Rio Secco
TPC Vegas
Reflection Bay
Primm Valley - Lakes or Desert
Arroyo Golf Club

Thanks!

reflection bay and the wolf course. rio secco is close to the strip, but the course is avg and only made marginally cooler b/c you may see butch harmon. tpc canyons is a really nice course too, but not as good as reflection or wolf. haven't played the other 2.
markjinc
Rio Secco is Sweeeeeeeeeet
emh181
Very interesting...one reply that Rio Secco is average and the other is that is it sweet. The Butch Harmon deal doesn't interest me at all.

Anyone check out the T-Mates program they offer? Very interesting.... smile.gif

Rio Secco is average, and generally over priced.

In order that I would play (and actually do play):

1. TPC Vegas
2. Primm Valley - Lakes
3. Wolf Paiute
4. Reflection Bay

5. Arroyo Golf Club
6. Rio Secco

7. Primm Valley - Desert

Good picks, but Arroyo? that place is a pasture, always in the worst shape IMO

Since about last November, they have made HUGE improvements to Arroyo, its really not bad now. BUT, as you noticed, there was a space between it and the better tracks, and it was in the bottom section! tongue.gif

big fan of Revere @ Anthem
deakanutz
A buddy of mine played Cascata and said it was nutz. Waterfall runs through the clubhouse, ultra high end but nicest joint ever he said.
MGWP
I will confirm that Rio Seco is average at best..not worth the money at all.
The two course at Lake Las Vegas..ie Reflection and Falls are intersting and worth playing especially the views on the Falls course.
I was there last July and was one of only about a dozen crazy enough to be on the course...it was great!
You could play every hole as many times as you wanted to and practise around the greens etc..well worth it.
ghromas
the falls at lake las vegas is closed and in foreclosure proceedings. reflection bay is still open and is awesome. i agree with deakanutz as cascata is amazing- the service, amenities, layout is great, except the cost is astronomical- at least $500pp. their waterfall shuts off after the last group makes the turn. funny.

if in your budget, then hit shadow creek and cascata. DONE!! or gamble big, and get your casino host to get you on for free (sorta); shadow is with MGM/Bellagio, and i think cascata was affiliated with Caesars awhile back, but now just public? i may be wrong.
JA5ON
I believe Harrahs entertainment owns Cascata and Rio Secco now

I played the third course there, Southshore, and it was amazing. Didn't have a ton of time the last time I was out there, but I'm hoping to play the other two the next time I get out there. I've heard they are quite nice also.

+1 for Revere at Anthem. Two courses, both cut through canyons with spectacular views of the entire Vegas valley. Challenging elevation changes and well kept greens for a reasonable price.

Having lived in Vegas for several years, and planning to move back, I liked Angel Park for the fair price, but also check out the other OB courses - The Legacy in Henderson and Aliante way up northwest. Both offer good resort style golf that won't break the bankroll.

As for the Rio Secco debate - I played it in the dead of summer 2 years ago and it was a fine course with slick and polished greens, but I paid the local rate of 75$ which is half the standard summer rate. I would play it again and it sure is a monster from the tips.

TPC Canyons, I think has been mentioned as TPC Vegas - but don't get it confused with it's sister course TPC Summerlin which is private - but Canyons is open to the public and is one of the most spectacular looking courses in the valley.
emh181
What does everyone think the better course is at the Primm Valley Resort? Lakes or Desert?

Same question with the Revere @ Anthem...Lexington or Concord?
JA5ON
Lakes at Primm and lexington at Revere.

The TPC Canyons is no longer, they changed the name to TPC Las Vegas

Lakes at Primm and lexington at Revere.

+1,

The Lakes course is really amazing. The desert course is nice, but nothing like the Lakes Course.

Both Revere courses are nice, but Lexington is definitely the better course of the two.

Thanks for the help everyone. Keep the suggestions coming if there are any other good courses that haven't been mentioned.

Hello All,

I have finally booked my flights and room for early July in Vegas. I am now trying to narrow down a few courses to play. I am going to be there for 6 days and would like to play 3 or 4 rounds. Wolf Creek is a done deal, but I am up in the air on the others.

I am trying to decide between: Wolf Paiute, Primm Valley Lakes, Revere Lexington, TPC Vegas and Bears Best.

What would your 3 choices be out of those 6 courses? They are all in the price range I want to spend so any of them would work. Primm Valley is the furthest away from the hotel besides Wolf Creek but at 40 miles it is not a big deal.

Any other course suggestions would be appreciated also.

Thank you very much!

Just played there last week. Played The Revere Concord (nice, but wish I would have chosen the Lexington for more of a challenge). Also played Rio Secco. The houses surrounding it were nice to look at, but found the Revere to be a better course. Have fun!
emh181
I have one more tee time to make. I am trying to decide between the Wolf Course, Bears Best, TPC Vegas, and Revere Concord. What one the best for my last time?
Bombn
A++ TPC Vegas (one of the best here)
A+ Wolf (Great true desert courses, without any development around it.)
A+ Bears Best
A+ Revere Concord

I think you will really like any of these, I would base it on price really, as all of the noted

OldSkoolTexan
I dont play Vegas without playing Bear's Best atleast once during the trip.......
FriGuy
We played at the Paiute last year in the Fall. July is really hot and I would think you can get a discount if you call ahead or shop around.
jjcopeland7
Well first off... If you are going to play in July... I better not be at 12:30, unless you want to pass out on the course.

My father and I went to vegas last year for 13 days in june/july.

We teed off every day before 7am. You need to figure out if you want this to be a golf vacation or a party vacation. Vegas is funny, b/c for all the fun that can be had there, you need to get up early if you want to play enjoyable golf. Playing at 12:30 in 115 degrees is not my idea of fun.

we played at:

Silverstone
TPC Canyons
TPC Summerlin (prv)
Badlands
Bali Hai

Playing all of these courses was cool, but the best deal was Silverstone. We were only paying $45 a person to tee off before 7am.
payne7744
lexington, dont miss it. one of the best there is. i get to vegas at least once a year for several days of golf (for 20yrs) i agree with other posts also. but being a flatlander i really enjoy the beauty of the lexington.
CopeSteelers
Falcon Ridge in Mesquite should be (I think it is July and August) $38/18 Riding. I played there in March and paid $125.

I have played both Wolf Creek and Falcon Ridge and Wolf Creek isn't THAT much better for the price. Falcon Ridge plays fair but still get the canyons play. Great great course and one of my favorites.
Nakava
I played both Rio Secco, Reflection Bay and Trump National over the past couple weeks and enjoyed all. I would have to say that I liked Rio Secco the best though. Really tough course even with the ball flying in the hot weather and the greens are lightning fast. The course is nice and spread out and the elevation changes are a lot of fun. Definitely check it out. If you're staying at a Harrah's property talk to your concierge about getting a reduced rate.

Reflection Bay was nice too just a bit easier than Rio Secco but still in good shape and a great round. Make a day out of it and grab lunch somewhere in the Montelago village.

Believe it or not I would take both these courses over Trump which was a little cramped and black tee boxes were hell to find. Beautiful scenery, but unfortunately Mr. Trump, you're fired! Sorry had to do it. Have a great summer everyone.
