I agree, I think he is going to have a good comeback year.
jflewski33
David Toms will be tough coming off the second place finish in hawaii, but i hope Duval has a good week. Been rooting for the comeback for years. The torch is starting to get heavy.

adam10
I pull for DD every tournament he's in. let's hope he gets off to a solid start in 09 with at least a made cut, if not a top 25.

also, Weir (past champion) is playing but is boycotting the Pro-Am out of respect for the way George Lopez was treated. I say good for him, hopefully he plays with a little chip on his shoulder and plays well.

I'd love to see DD do well.

Is George Lopez playing? I guess there's some bad blood there, after reading DF's article in the back of Golf magazine.

I've got:
CHIII
Justin Leonard
Anthony Kim

What was the bad blood between George Lopez and the Tournament?
GatorBait
Why doesn't Phil play here anymore? He used to light this tournament up...

Anyway, I'll take Toms or Boo
kharmon
I too am hoping DD will have a good week and at least a made cut. Maybe he will be inspired on the 10th anniversary of his 59. Wow, can you believe that was 10 years ago? DD went on to become #1 in the world, surpassing TW, after winning this event in '99. Good luck DD!

I'm curious which celebrities will show up after the George Lopez dismissal/mishandling by the Board? Consider guys like Justin Timberlake and David Feherty publicly criticizing the incident, I am not surprised that none of the Top 15 show up (with AK out).
golfafire
Wont be Anthony Kim, he withdrew due to shoulder injury. MRI results were not good.
bradski
chIII is out, scott is out, kim is out, going with two gloves............ hope he does good.
b-man777
hey all: When you add up the players who had to withdraw, those playing the euro tour instead and others just taking the week off what is the future of the hope and other pro-am tour events? I know the bob hope classic and at&t pro am have been around a long time, but with rounds taking well over five hours and the distraction of the celebs mainly from trying to have fun with the fans it seems to me that many tour players don't want the hassle this type of event brings. For most players pro-ams on tour are like the crazy par three 16th at the fbr open it's different and fun,but they wouldn't want to have this kind of thing every week. Just my thoughts and congrats on the hopes 50 years and the king arnie hosting the '09 event thanks biggrin.gif
Irridium
boo's in qatar
b-man777
hey there: Yes i heard boo as well as scott and els are all playing the euro tour this week. For some players who will try to play both tours this year they may have to skip some pga tour events they usualy play in. Thanks biggrin.gif
Huskypride28
Anyone know why they dropped George Lopez as the host? I wasn't a fan of his anyway, but was just curious.

MRI results weren't that bad....he said he'll probably only need a week off to recover from the injury.

Man, some of you guys need to check the golf news a little more often- half the players mentioned aren't even playing!

From what I remember, the golf gods didn't like some of Lopez' antics on the golf course last year, but that is just speculation on my part. I don't even remember what he did, it was that un-memorable. Suffice it to say, the man is a comedian by trade (as was Bob Hope!), but I think he was a little over the top.
ZBigStick
I remember tons of threads criticizing Lopez.
I probably added to them myself last year, but I am unaware of how he was removed from being host.

Does anyone know why Bob Hope's name is still attached to the tourney, yet Bing Crosby's is gone from the Pebble Beach tourney? It must have to do with their estates' contributions to the tourneys, but I would like to know the details.

I'll go with Mike Weir. wink.gif

great to see DiMarco playing well again. he is one of my favorites to watch get around the course.
KTS1010
I think my man Stricker will play alright this week, he has started out with an alright round.
Lefty17
T-70 right now is -4.....go lowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

7 guys over par and Brad Faxon is dead last at +5...lol
Ace In The Hole
WOW talk about your foot on the gas, I must say I am watching to see if someone shoots a 59, or maybe a couple celebs shank a few but to me this is not entertaining golf.

O and it's just the Bob Hope Classic, no more Chrysler.
InTheHole
It is amazing to watch.

I don't mind it- there is a nice mix of golf courses throughout the year- there's weeks where they are shooting 387 under par, and other days when 5 over is a good score.

Because of the variety, you can ask, "what would it be like to put pro golfers on an 'easy' course?" and "what would it be like if we made the course really difficult- what would the pros shoot?"

They can't make these too difficult because of the amateurs... if they had US Open conditions out there, rounds would take 9 hours.

Yes this is very true, I can only imagine what old Huey Lewis would shoot if they had a tougher setup, he's a hell of a Pop artist but to refference one of his songs, when I see him golf all I can think of is "Bad is Bad" LOL.
Simp
Yeah, these courses are going to be the easiest courses they play all year, and it's showing. First day had 5 guys that had a legitimate shot at 59....WOW!

As I recall, the Crosby family had a dispute with AT&T, and pulled their support of the tournament.

For a couple of years, they held a tournament somewhere in North Carolina, and invited all of the players and celebrities who used to play in the Pebble Beach "Clambake". It was not a PGA Tour event, but was a charitable event nonetheless.

Actually, I'm not even sure they still hold the event.

Let's keep perspective on this tournament, overall. Yes, it is part of the pro tour, but...

Per comments on the GC broadcast tonight, the minimum for an amateur to get into the tournament was $12K. They raised over $2M for charity.

With that kind of money raised, who cares if they shoot 80 under.

You also have to remember the origins of this tournament. Bob Hope and many of the celebrities that have participated over the years were part of what made golf so popular in the 60's and 70's.

As a kid growing up and not liking golf at the time, I remember two names associated with golf tournaments, Bob Hope and Dinah Shore. Along with Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, THAT was golf to a non-fan.

A lot of the people interviewed today give this tournament credit for what golf is today.

Well said. I live in the Palm Springs area and my 11 year old daughter looks foward to this event every year. She doesn't care for golf but loves to go see the celebrities and we enjoy the family atmosphere. The rough is short, the courses are in great shape, and the weather is perfect! We had a great time at the Palmer Private and Nicklaus Private courses today at PGA West.

This tournament is very laid back and fun just like Palm Springs.
