Anyone see the guy put a huge dent into his I think 6 iron trying to hit a golf ball right in front of a rock? Why didn't he move the rock?

I would like to know as well. The only explanation I can think of is that the rock may have been partially embedded.

I was wondering the same thing... then it dawned on me, sand, hazard, can't remove loose impediments from it. Correct me if I'm wrong but that's what I thought.

Not a hazard, he was in a waste area.

It was his 9 iron.
If the rock was embedded .. it isn't anymore!!
If he was in a hazzard...

Was it a hazard?
I saw it on golf central but only caught the last few seconds of it.
If it was a waste bunker, I thought you could ground your club and remove loose impediments.

I saw it durning the broadcast. He ripped it out on the 1st swing and missed the ball. Then basically used the rock as an "inside approach" for the next shot. If it were legal to move it, I'm sure he would have on the 2nd, it was very close to the ball still. To tell you truth, the 1st swing looked like he might have been trying to hit the rock hard enough that it would hit the ball and knock it out of there.

It was Oliver Wilson at Abu Dhabi (European Tour) and he was in a hazard.

GM is correct it was at Abu Dhabi and he was in a hazard. He was using a Callaway X-Forged 9 iron.

I just couldn't believe he even attempted this shot in the first place. The odds of him making clean contact were probably 100-1. He couldn't even fit the head of a hybrid between the rock and the ball. Very, very dangerous for his wrist.

its was oliver wilson, he wasnt allowed to move it and he didnt take a penalty drop because he was worried about the ball plugging in the waste area, casey dropped in the waste about 3 holes later and it plugged, wilson ended up only making bogey which was good.

Mark, now I don't understand. If it was a waste area as I originally thought, rather than a bunker, why was he not allowed to move the loose impediment. Was it embedded?
Thanks,
Kevin

Hey, no problem Mark. We are all in the same boat here, none of us knows where it's going, and the Captain abandoned ship a long time ago.
