I just barely caught it on TGC, but apparently there is a 14 year old that is playing in the tournament this week. What is his name and how did he do today? And does anyone know what he is playing?

Lorens Chan, a local I think, and he finished at 2 over for a 72 today. They had Chamblee (I hate that guy lol) critiquing his swing, and for the most part he was impressed (so he said).

Spoke to his caddie after the round and he told me that he didn't hit many fairways on the front side, then 3 putted holes 8 and 9. He hit the ball well and was 100% on sand saves. This kid can play!

Yes...I think I posted him in some other thread. It's Lorens Chan. They had a qualifying tournament where the top 12 amateurs in the state played for 1 spot in the Sony Open. Lorens won it. He's been winning a few local tournaments and doing well on the Continental US. Our own Joe Kwok has been working I believe the last year with him and his sticks.
On a sidenote....Lorens and Tadd Fujikawa's caddies also happen to be members of GolfWRX. Congrats to them as well.

2 over? That's awesome. It's impressive to see kids with game and poise to boot.

I hope he's steered in the right direction, unlike another hawaiian phenom was. Go to college, then earn your card. I'm sure the long term benefits are worth it. Just ask a fella named Eldrick.

I hope we get to see what we did two years ago and have the young guy make the cut like Tadd did, wouldn't it be fun if they both made the cut and were close to the same score and were placed in the same group. I can't imagine how much fun that would be for a 14 year old, good for him even if he doesn't make the cut, both him and Tadd deserve to be there.

I think he won the us amateur right??
btw, I'd really like to know how far this little 14 year old is hitting the ball. I think he weights less than 100 lbs? Either he is long or has a short game of the gods?

I think Danny Lee is like 18 or 19. I thought I heard that he's turning pro after the Masters.

Hey it's not that hard, just go out and practice for hours a day on short game, I honestly think I can match or better any short game shot on the pga tour, but I now have to get my putter to that level, I average wayyy too many putt (36, 40 sometimes)
p.s. Not trying to brag, just trying to prove a point you have to practice for hours on end and belive in yourself.

I know COLLEGE is important, but i never made it and i have done well for my family and myself. As for the other phenom, whether she has made it big soon as everyone hoped she would, i would think she has EARNED more money than most of us on here will make in a life time. Its not all about money but if the great swimmers, gymnast, tennis players do it while they are in high school. Why do you go to college? WHAT, so you can get a JOB? Go to school later. Remeber TIGER NEVER FINISHED. A couple more that went on before becoming a college grad: Bill Gates, Rush Limbaugh..... Those are two that are the highest paid in their field of expertise.

Two words---Ty Tryon who I believe earned his card. Better go to college for at least a couple of years (like Tiger). Those two years at Stanford did wonders for Tiger. Even his game wasn't ready for the pros out of high school. He played in a lot of pro tournaments but didn't do very well..Nicklaus didn't finish school either, but he almost won the 1960 U.S. Open (second to Palmer) as either a freshman or sophmore. As Hogan said (who hated Palmer by the way), if Jack would have used his head he would have won by 8 strokes. To which Jack said if Hogan could putt he would have won by 10 strokes. I believe that Mickelson and maybe Verplank won pro tournaments while in College. Tiger never came close to winning any pro tournament as an amateur. When he first turned pro, very few (including himself in interviews) expected the immediate success he had based on his past history.

Danny Lee was just a little over 18 when he won US Am this past year and broke Tiger's record for youngest ever. Regardless, he is awesome and has done very well in pro tournaments so far.
Golfsll, great point. I have always wondered this same thing. I don't know how going to college would be better than being a pro and practicing every day and getting tons of tournament experience. I know it hasn't worked very well for those who have tried it, but I think my game would have been better instead of going to college to play, and drink, and chase women, haha! Maybe that was just me though.

Well Lorens didn't quite make the cut but played well good for him.
But Tadd made the cut and good old Two Glove made it on the number too, good way to start the season for both of these guys, put some money in their pockets.
