There are many South Fla juniors who had dream of there senior year and trying to qualify for doral on open qualifying weekend. There dreams have been crushed due to the WGC. WGC allows only the top 64 ranked Pros play If im correct. I personally had planed that two years down the line I'd try to make it through opening qualifiers and might as well give it a shot. I guess for all of us now, all we got left is Miccosukee Championship on the Nationwide tour. Its a great tourny not as prestige as doral would've been but I mean it is kind of sad. I believe that its great for the community of Doral, but it does crush alot of hopes and dreams of Junior golfers High School career. I personally played in a qualifier where the top 10 would make the tournament as Amateurs and I came in 13th so I know what it feels like to gonna miss out on this oppurtunity.

Doral isn't a WGC. It's just a normal PGA Tour event.

Next year it is to become another WGC event, this is the last year that it is the ford championship.
Omar, I'd have to disagree with you, the truth of the matter is that almost any realistic junior realizes that theyre not going to qualify for pretty much any PGA Tour event as each year the monday qualifying results yield very low scores by local mini tour pros non exempt pga tour members etc. To qualify your going to have to shoot mid 60's at almost every monday qualifier in order to qualify and this is under conditions the likes of which no junior has ever seen. The length is much longer, the rough is longer, the greens faster, the fairways tighter, etc. I dont mean to sound like ebenezer scrooge but it really is a pipe dream unless your one of the top ranked am's in the nation to expect to be able to play well enough under these conditions to beat non exempt pga tour players, nationwide players, mini tour guys, etc. Im sad to see it go bc a friend of mine, mark wilson, is playing this year and unfortunately unless through some miracle will not play in the WGC. But i never had any intent to try and qualify bc i realized even if i play my best, which has won me numerous junior tournaments, im going to get creamed by some of the best golfers in the country. JMHO.

yea no doubt at qualifiers I took a run at it and met some pga tour pros a nationwide guy and a mini tour guy. MOST of the people except for the pros shot high 80s since they were avg joes NO LIES! I shot an 81 lowest I've ever shot at such a hard course as that and came in 13th. It was fun to be honest, I thought hell let me give it a shot and see what happens before I cant ever do this again.

No offense but you may have a better shot at that Nationwide Tour event. So you should definetly try that out.

I guess you also did not know CA (formerly known as Computer Associates) is a $4B software company.
The event will be called WGC-CA Championship and it replaces the AMEX Championship which is played in September.

No offense, but I'd be willing to bet that there's not a junior golfer in south Florida that could make the field at Doral. It's just too tough to get into one of these events. People shoot 68 at the qualifiers and they go home. Even par just won't cut it. Simp

Why are they replacing the AMEX? I liked that tourney. Sponsor not choking up the money?

Man, have you seen some of these "kids" play these days? Go check the scores from any number of AJGA events and you'll see that there are plenty of kids who could QUALIFY for ANY PGA Tour event........the "elite" juniors in the US are very, very, very good.......
