Although competing a world away from each other on different Tour’s, Anders Hansen and Davis Love finished 1-2 to build some fantastic momentum out of the gate in 2009.

Denmark’s Hansen (FootJoy Classics) tapped in a birdie on the final hole Sunday to win the Joburg Open by one shot. Tied for the lead at 14-under on the 18th tee, Hansen gave himself a great chance to win when he left his second shot 25 feet from the hole on the par five. He two-putted for a final round 5-under 66, which featured a 31 on the front, and his third European Tour title.

“I think it means a lot to win obviously – because that’s of course what we’re here for. Especially after the first day, where the first two holes I started double bogey-bogey and think ‘what is this?’ But I turned that round around and got off to a flying start the second day. I couldn’t keep it going, but that sort of helped me put things into perspective thinking about the next day.

“I thought I needed to keep the third round going and again got off to a good start. And then I thought I had to come out and shoot five under. I thought 15 under was going to be the winning score, so I was right.”

Meanwhile, halfway around the world, Davis Love continued his great play from last year. He finished 2008 by winning the final PGA Tour tournament of the season and nearly won the first one of 2009. Wearing SYNR-G to battle the hilly terrain of the Plantation Course at Kapalua, Davis closed with a final round 6-under 67 to finish tied for second place.
