A few notes from the Joburg Open, the first European Tour event of 2009. FootJoy is the #1 shoe at the event with 70% of the players, compared to 15% or the nearest competitor.
Anders Hansen is at the Joburg Open for the first time looking to play his way into form before the desert swing starts next week. His week got off to a slow start, however, when his travel cover didn’t arrive. He received a new pair of Classics Tour for the practice rounds and was delighted with the performance in the African heat. He was impressed with the lightweight feeling and straight-out-of-the-box comfort.
Andrew McLardy was another player to encounter some travel issues. He had a pair of FJ shoes stolen from his travel cover while in transit through the Middle East. Following a quick call to his home in North Carolina, his father-in-law was able to pack a brand new pair of Contours to carry to the event for him.
Maarten Lafeber and Marcus Higley are two players who asked to hold back some of their 2009 shoe order until they have had the opportunity to wear SYNR-G in competition. Both players have heard rave reviews and are anticipating wanting to order more SYNR-G early in the season.
Michael Hoey stepped out sporting the FJ logo on his collar for the first time this week and got off to a very fast start with a first-round 64.
