Hi, Does anyone know if I buy a pair of saddle shoes with a leather goodyear welt sole, is it possible to get golf spikes put on and if so, does anyone know where I can get this done? Thanks a lot. Dave

Not sure that adding spikes to street shoes can be done, but I do remember doing that about 40 years ago with screw in metal spikes. Ah memories of our youth.

I think you'd probably have to have a whole new sole put on by a cobbler, but it might be something they could add to the existing sole. Good luck finding anyone that still does this type of work...not that common anymore.

Golf shoes have what is called a "last" in the sole. It where the bottom part of the threads are attached to the shoes. If u just want a nice pair of golf shoes. Then Florisheim used to make them. and u can get others. But look about 4 or 5 hundred at the cheapest. It hasn't been that long that metal spikes were worn by everyone. I still have a pair of leather ashworths with permanet ceramic spikes in them. That I cant wear anymore.

I was going to suggest the same thing, or for a little less money some Footjoy Classics!

Cosign, Zappos or Ebay- You can find a pair of World Class or Classics for around $200 and they're gonna be 10x better than any makeshift golf shoe you could rig up.

If it's a specific color combination that you want, get a set of FJ Classics and have a leathersmith dye them.

I think the last is the form that's used in the construction of the shoe that give it its basic shape. Think of the form as a substitute for a foot in the shoe manufacturing process.

The welt is the part of the shoe that is probably what you're referring to.

Footjoy Classics aren't made with a leather sole anymore, but they still use a welted construction. If you're willing to put up with a small blemish, you can find great deals on blems on the bay or at Golf Shoes Only.com. I have a pair of Classic Tours and they are fabulously comfortable after a few round of breaking them in.

I talked to a shoe store once about converting a very comfortable pair of older nice dress shoes for golf, and I was told it wasn't practical. Golf shoes are constructed a little differently so that the spike supports that are in the sole are insulated from the footbed.

I'll agree though that the Ecco World Class welted sole golf shoes are considered by many to be the best of the best.

Hi, Thanks a lot for your responses....I actually have the Ecco World Class GTX Saddle shoes which are great. I used the Footjoy Classic Dry Premiere for awhile, until they were stolen but didnt find them as comfortable. I was just trying to be creative as I have a great pair of brand new saddle shoes that are so comfortable that would look great as golf shoes but it seems like its sort of impractical to accomplish........
