Just when you thought that the last word you ever wanted to hear about this argument, here comes scientific (more or less) research to rekindle the debate. Here is the link. Read at your own risk:

It is probably worthwhile to note that the study uses a small sample and therefore may not be generalizable. I would suggest that since the findings are so suggestive, someone will be trying to duplicate it with a larger sample.

I just can't believe the line on how they expected using a push cart would burn more calories than carrying your bag. That just doesn't seem like a logical hypotheses, kind of like saying pushing a cart full of groceries would be tougher than carrying them all on your back.

They also really seem to discount the 300 calorie difference between walking and riding over 9 holes. That's a big difference. That's 3 miles or so on a treadmill. I am surprised at how much you burn while riding, but that's a good thing.
