I never browse from my iPhone but I understand what he is saying. Stripped down versions, specifically for mobile devices, would offer increased performance. Not everyone has the luxury of an iPhone or G1.
If there were a need, I would be interested in working on a iPhone app.
Exactly.
I in fact have an iPhone, but there are still a ton of problems when trying to post and browse the site with it. A lot of times pictures dont load, and usually if you try to post anything longer than two sentences, it crashes and closes the browser. It's probably just do to the fact that theres so much data and information involved with this website. Thats why i mention the smaller, more compact version. Not everyone can always be on Wifi where it loads fast, and even fewer people have access to the 3g networks.
Just because everyone in this thread seems to have an iPhone or similar device, im guessing that accounts for less than 5% of the people that actually use this site.
There must be some benefit to developing a mobile app, or i doubt that nearly every popular website would be using them.
Good point. I guess I glossed over the 'App' part of the title. I still don't see the point of a middle-tiered version of this site as we already have the full and lo-fi options, and as most new-ish mobile tech can handle the standard (except, as you mentioned, posting can be a pita). But an App, I think that would be an AWESOME addition. Something similar to the "My Assistant" feature, but maybe with an easy browse button that has the main forums listed. Only problem is that there's got to be some serious time involved with developing that, and time = money. But going off the count of ClubWRX members, there's only about 400 members who think this site is worth paying for, so this would have to be developed by a true altruist.
Either way, I would love to see that app come to light. But in the interest of full disclosure, I once thought "More Cowbell" was worth a download and still have "Esteem Aid" on my iPod.
