Mods,

Has this been discussed at all? I think it would be perfect for guys on the go who can't always be at their computer but are itching to browses these boards or rant about their latest round or recent purchase.

Plus it could be helpful for players on the course or at the golfshop who can't seem to remember that last tip they read, or the review on the new driver their interested in.

Im not sure of all the logistics involved or costs, but i know that it could be a huge hit with a lot of people. Its just so much easier to browses websites such as ESPN or Ebay with the Mobile sites they have up for Cell Phones, PDA's, iPod Touch, and Blackberry.

What do you guys think? Is this something you would use alot?

I browse the site frequently with an iphone, itouch, Nokia N, etc. Only think I can't do is upload photos and I'm not sure we would invest in that one feature.

I have opera mobile on my phone and I go to the site sometimes through that.

I browse this phone on my G1 and post on it as well. I also did it on my BlackBerry. The G1 will browse the site fast over the 3G and on WiFi, and so does my buddy's iPhone.

site works fine from my iphone too...

I play around the site occasionally from an ipod touch and have no real issues with speed. Back when I was on a Palm Pilot (T|X), I used the Low-Fi settings, which cut down load time but had some disadvantages (read only, no search, etc.). Only problem I've had so far with the ipod now that the wildly big avatar problem has been addressed (and assume it's the same as iphone) is that it seems that upload times can be a PITA.

You might be smoking too much of whatever it is. Because my friends and I can browse this site with our iPhones & blackberry's with no problems. Very fast on both Verizon & AT&T networks.

iPhone is perfecly capable of browsing this site as is. No need for dumbed down version IMO.

I never browse from my iPhone but I understand what he is saying.  Stripped down versions, specifically for mobile devices, would offer increased performance.  Not everyone has the luxury of an iPhone or G1.  smile.gif

If there were a need, I would be interested in working on a iPhone app.

Exactly.

I in fact have an iPhone, but there are still a ton of problems when trying to post and browse the site with it. A lot of times pictures dont load, and usually if you try to post anything longer than two sentences, it crashes and closes the browser. It's probably just do to the fact that theres so much data and information involved with this website. Thats why i mention the smaller, more compact version. Not everyone can always be on Wifi where it loads fast, and even fewer people have access to the 3g networks.

Just because everyone in this thread seems to have an iPhone or similar device, im guessing that accounts for less than 5% of the people that actually use this site.

There must be some benefit to developing a mobile app, or i doubt that nearly every popular website would be using them.

maybe not the whole site...but accessing the PM via blackberry would be kinda handy

I had better luck with this site on my Blackberry than on my current Samsung Instinct. The instinct does OK, but occasionally it closes out due to a time-out because of the large amount of data from this site. This is the only site I've had problems with so far. Thats ok though, nothing like being able to search WRX from anywhere.

I access the site all the time from my Palm Treo with no real issues.

That would be fantastic. I can view the site through my lg dare on the verizon network but it is kinda a pain and not something I would not do all that much anyways, But to be able to send a quick response back to a pm I got would be pretty cool. I can read them with no issues but cant send a response

Good point. I guess I glossed over the 'App' part of the title. I still don't see the point of a middle-tiered version of this site as we already have the full and lo-fi options, and as most new-ish mobile tech can handle the standard (except, as you mentioned, posting can be a pita). But an App, I think that would be an AWESOME addition. Something similar to the "My Assistant" feature, but maybe with an easy browse button that has the main forums listed. Only problem is that there's got to be some serious time involved with developing that, and time = money. But going off the count of ClubWRX members, there's only about 400 members who think this site is worth paying for, so this would have to be developed by a true altruist. wink.gif

Either way, I would love to see that app come to light. But in the interest of full disclosure, I once thought "More Cowbell" was worth a download and still have "Esteem Aid" on my iPod. pardon.gif
