I'll be down in Southern Pines next week. How are the course conditions and weather out there? I know it'll get busy around Thanksgiving, but things should be relatively quiet a couple of days before, yes?

Could be quiet, but winter is more the peak season for Pinehurst. Summer is the down time. So don't expect to be out there by yourself. At least for the private clubs. I'd imagine the resort is similar. smile.gif

Cold right now. Forecast is colder as the week goes on. Next week might be a tad cool-highs in 50s are good for this time of year. Last of Nov seems to be the coldest time to me-probably because it is so nice and warm and then WHAM it is cold.
Bermuda will be dormant. Rye should be out if courses overseeded. Been some reduction in overseeding at some places.
If it warms up next week you will be in heaven.

This week is cold. Hopefully, next week will be better. I personally like Hyland Hills of So. Pines and a real sleeper is the Country Club at Whispering Pines ( old Pines course ).

hmm, will it really be busy? I'll be down there in 2 weeks and 3 different places (resorts...) said itll be totally wide open that week.

And when you say cold, do you mean "cold for the south" or "actual cold"??? smile.gif

Highs tomorrow in 40s. That was not cold when I lived in Duluth MN but it is now!

40's is September weather for Duluth yeah smile.gif . Been there 4 or 5 times. Crazy cold in the winter. But a gorgeous town (views from the hill are spectacular) in the summer.

Next week could range from 45* high to 70* high...it is just the luck of the draw for this time of year. I got married on November 25th 2 years ago and played golf the day before with the temp around 65*. It was 66* the following day for the wedding. I also played golf 2 years in a row on New Years Day in shorts with the highs around 65-70*. So you might get lucky or you might now...it is really just a coin flip.

I've been there in March, so it should be somewhat similar conditions. The courses are in great shape (it IS Pinehurst!). They are resort conditions though....short rough....slick, but not ultra-fast greens.

When I went in March, it was my first round of the year since I live in WI/ND. The only time we could get on the #2 course was the early morning of the first round of the trip. We had 5 minutes to warm up on the range and were set on playing the unmarked tips. I'm a 3.3 handicap and all I can say is that round did not go well. man_in_love.gif

Have fun! Be sure to play the #8 as well. Don't underestimate the shorter tracks they offer as well. They can be just as fun if you want to play 36 in a day as the second nine when you might be getting wore out a bit.

Far from true...The averages for November are a high of 62 and low of 42, usually pretty nice in November. March is a high of 54 and low of 33 on average, with much more wind. I have lived here since 1996 and march is usually the worst month becuase of the cold wind that is not normally present in Jan. and Feb. But it is NC...and every month including Jan-Mar. will have at least 1 great weekend a month, it is just the luck of the draw.

It was late March and was 70 and sunny each and every day. Perfect weather IMO.
