I've used Ping bags my whole life.. im starting to get older (26) and dont walk as much anymore, but still walk from time to time. My Vantage is just starting to get to me, hard to put clubs in and when I take out 1, 3 come out.. etc.. and the velcro attached club dividers are just an absolute joke.

So.. after reading all the rave review on Ogio.. and Roger Dunn said Ogio is their #1 selling back for the past 4 years, i am now intrigued..

Anyone? 2009 specifically.
Pure745
Okay.. i guess I'll be the first.. ordered it today.. will be here on the 18th.
lefty74pgh
I got a Ogio Grom 08' last year. It was between the Vantage and the Grom. I am similar to you, I ride mostly and wanted a bag that performs well on a cart and can be carried. The Grom has been great.
mle323
throw some pics up of that bad boy when it arrives!!!
sharkiesj
If you want one, I have one that I have never used. It's tan, white and blue. I'll give it to you dirt cheap, and since we're both in SoCal, we could meet at R. Dunn.

But I guess you already ordered one.....
Brando5105
I love my Grom....I think I got the 2009...Its the best bag I have bought yet. Will post pics soon
Pure745
Yeah i ordered the black and pinstriped one.. i saw one (not that color) in person at Roger Dunn today.. not as big as i hoped for but we'll see once all my junk is in it.
Brando5105
here is my black and pinstriped one......It holds everything I need and is still lighter than my old hoofer

That's my exact bag, received after my nexos crapped out. I like it so far and its a really sharp bag, just hopefully the same leg system holds up this time. Also I wasn't very please with the customer service, it took me about four months to receive my replacement bag.
Pure745
OH man that thing is sweet!! Cant wait to get mine tomm!!
generalpatton
I saw all the colors except for the plaid in the store yesterday. They definitely look much better than the pictures. I was liking the dark red/bright red combo but the pinstripe was pretty cool as well. I was having a problem getting the legs to deploy properly, I'm assuming it was because the bag was empty. Have you had any problems after you've filled your bag up with clubs?
Brando5105
no problem with the legs at all when the bag is full
Pure745
Just got.. i dunno if i like it or not.. there's just something that I'm not 100% with on this bag! I keep looking at my white vantage and I think the Ping looks better sad.gif

That's because it does. When I first saw the pin stripes on the bag, I was looking for the "ladies of the night" that should be accompanying it. It reminds me of a pimp, and I don't mean in a good way.

Pure745
Yeah.. going to Roger Dunn right now to exchange it.. I might get the atomic orange and white or white and navy latitude.. i need something bigger than the vantage..
golf_fanatik
I had the 2008 Grom that I sold to another member here.

I checked the 09 Grom at GG last night and the legs seem very unstable. Maybe once it is loaded, they deploy better?

The other thing I didn't like was the chromed plastic touches on the handles and the putter well seemed smaller than before but I'm not sure.

For now, I'm happy with my sasquatch tour bag.. the only think I don't like is the swoosh!
Pure745
you know what i was thinking of doing?? getting the nike vr's and having them sent to j. kwok for refinish in gun black.. what'd you think..

Older?....hahaha...at 26? I turn 26 in a couple of months...Is that the age it hits you now? I walk most every round, doesnt get to me. Maybe i need to take advantage of it these last couple of months. ha

Ogio bags are great and the new style looks sweet and probably performs even better.

You will have to be killed for turning on the Ping cult.

The Sasquatch Tour bag could possibly be the best bag on the market. (I hope my Hoofer didn't hear me say that) It is very solid, and a pretty good sized bag as well.

If you go through with your VR idea, then you will have a pretty crazy cool set of Nike sticks. But they will still just be expensive Nike irons. tongue.gif

Ive been a hoofrer guy all of my golfing life, but Im just so sick of my clubs getting tangled and not staying all the way in the bag! Its really annoying. Anyways, good luck with which ever you decide to go with.

I spent time looking at the 2009 Ogio Grom and Edge bags last week in a golf B&M. Initially, I thought both bags seemed a little unstable while empty. I went home and got out my 2006 Sun Mountain Flight bag, which is full of clubs, and tested its stability. It definitely seemed a bit more stable to me.

So, I went back to the golf store and loaded both bags with a set of irons and 3 woods. Once they were loaded, both felt subjectively about as stable as my Flight bag, and I've never had any stability or tipping problems with that bag.

There was one curious thing about the deployment of the stand legs on both Ogio bags. On my Flight bag, when I tip it back, the legs fully deploy. On the Ogios, the legs did not want to deploy to their fully retracted position until you put a little additional downward pressure on the bag. This is not a biggie to me, but I do struggle to understand why this would be necessary in the first place.

With all that being said, I did really like both bags. Initially I thought the Grom was the bag for me, but after a more thorough in-person review, I liked the Edge more. Right now, it's my first choice for my next bag.

Pure745
LOL at the this thread.. OKAY.. so after my trip to Roger Dunn.. i was torn between the SQ Tour and the 09 Sun Mountain Four 5..

I got the Four 5..

I also hit the new VR Blades.. and have decided that they indeed are a BUST for 2009.. they look and feel worse than the original blades.. and feel worse than the X Proto's and MB Smokes and MP67's.. sorry NIKE.. BUSTED.
TM golf guy 182
Solid choice. I forgot all about that bag. That is definitely the best new bag for 2009. Nice pick up. Oh, and good job coming to your senses on the irons. You would have been kicking yourself in the backside if you got rid of your Pings for Nikes.
Pure745
Yeah the Four5 is way nicer than the Grom and the pockets are more logistically thought out, rather than just pockets everywhere.. and the stand is better. The Grom is heavier and more sturdy for sure.. better for the cart. The backpack on the Four5 is way better..

TM have you used the SQ Tour? It's pretty feature packed, has some really cool things.. but maybe too much? Still thinking about that bag.. the huge cooler pocket is so sweet!
Pure745
Forgot to mention that the Four5 has 14 full lenth dividers where the Grom does not, it has the Woode system.. the way the Grom's dividers are alligned, it kind of makes the clubs hit eachother when moving the bag around.. if that makes sense.
TM golf guy 182
Never used the SQ Tour personally, but I have looked at it several times. I just hate the big huge check marks on it. I also wasn't too sure about the strange hard plastic handle. I could just picture some freak accident breaking it.
golf_fanatik
I have the Nike bag and the handle is one of my favorite features. very stable to lift, etc. Another of my favorite features is that the straps are very easily removed if you are riding or pushing a cart... again, it would be perfect if it didn't have the swoosh black eye.gif

I had an older model 07 or 08 Grom which I sold awhile back and ended up picking up a 09 Grom a few weeks ago, but returned it after 1 day.

The reason I got the Grom is because I missed the Torque strap, I found that really useful when riding. Which I've pretty much been doing as of late. But I found some really annoying things with the 09 Grom which made me return it.

1. The single club slots are much tighter at the top now. the sock end of my driver, and woods had to be shoved down into the holes. My headcovers are just basic ones

2. Also with the single club slots when I put my Driver, 3 wood and 5 wood in them they each wouldn't go down all the way (even after I worked the headcovers into the slots) because the driver head would hit the 3 wood head before the shaft bottomed out and same with the 5 wood. All my clubs are standard length 45'' driver and etc.

3. My trunk is a little tight, but with my current bag I can fit it in w/o taking out the driver. Not a chance with the Grom, the Driver head stuck out much higher. It wasn't even close to fitting in my trunk.

How tight are the slots for the clubs on the Four5? I also found that the 09 Ogio Grom has much tighter slots now especially the putter slot. I did notice on their websites that the SM has a 10.5" top and the Grom has a 9". Any pics of the top without clubs in it - I'd like to see how you could organize your clubs in it compared to the Woode.
Pure745
First time out with the Four 5 yesterday, its a great bag.. the only problem is that you have to strap it in sideways in a cart, but other than that the club holes are more than roomy enough, you can even fit 2 clubs into one of the individual holes..

Thanks - why do you need to strap it in sideways in a cart? Does it not stay stable?
Pure745
No, it could be the model of the cart as well.. the bag has an oval shapped bottom ant its 10.5" plus the stand mechanism so the bag will stand up on its own when not in the cart.. so the oval shape it too long front to back to fit into the well of the cart, so you have to put it sideways, which isnt so bad depending on your pocket config..

Just a couple questions for those of you who have or had the 2009 grom. Is it heavy? Ogio says 5.8 pounds which I think is not bad, but I keep hearing alot of people say to not even think about the grom if you walk because it is extremely heavy. I have an original hoofer and absolutely cant stand how I can't pull a club out of it with out them getting stuck. Is this a problem at all with the new grom? Lastly, this is a direct question for Pure, but what exactly did you not like about the bag? Thanks for the help guys!
Pure745
Mlee,

The Grom is definitely heavier than the Four 5, maybe about the same weight as my Vantage was. When full and on your back, the Grom feels MUCH heavier than the Four 5. The Four 5 is made with a really light weight material, definitely not as sturdy of a material as the Grom or Vantage. It looks great though, so we'll see how it holds up.

What I didn't like about the Grom:

-hated the way the clubs looked in the bag. I'm used to Ping bags, so I like my woods up top with my putter, not running down the side, also the Grom has a 9.5 top vs. the Four 5's 10.5, so there is a lot more room on the Four 5, even with the 14 individual club holes, you can fit 2 clubs in 1 hole.. they are also individually lined so the clubs go in and out with ease.

-There are a lot of pockets, but to me they're kind of just everywhere, and not well thought out. Also, i felt the bag was very "gimicky" and didnt like the stand so much. The pockets on the Four 5 are much more useful to me, and laid out more similar to my Vantage but with more room and some other random cool things i like.

-Overall the Four 5 looks 100x better than the Grom with clubs in. There's no chrome and gimicks and divot holders and that plastic ball thing and stuff like that.

There's not much about the Grom that I like better than the Four 5.
mle323
yea, im used to the layout of the hoofer, so not sure the grom is gonna work after all. dntknw.gif Thanks for all the help man!!
Improved_Lie
Plus one on the Vantage frustrations! It is a great looking bag, White/Black/Atomic Orange. But a little flimsy would be putting it nicely. And tangled clubs everywhere. I hate the fact that I have to stack the 3 wood over the hybrid. Even the retractable strap rolls up and the driver gets all jammed up on it! black eye.gif

I'm thinking about the Titleist version of the Sun Mountain Four 5. I like the heavier material that the Titleist is made from, it looks like it may last a little longer. The main thing I was concerned about was it fitting on the cart when riding, I don't think I will like the sideways mount. I wish the Titleist version would have had the 14 way top too! That will probably come out just after I break down and buy the 7 way version! No, I'm not jaded, am I!?!

Thanks for the info/opinions on the Grom!

Pure745
Improved lie:

I actually ended up with the Titleist bag you speak of. Its called the Titleist Premier stand bag. It's more strudy than the Four 5 which was my main complaint. The material on the Four 5 feels like that of a wind breaker jacket. The pockets on the Titleist model are MUCH MUCH better.. and there are more. It's just a better bag for me overall.
classick
Does the Four5 have an umbrella sleeve(like an actual sleeve, not just a loop on the bottom of the bag and a cinch on top)? Does the 2009 Grom? That's what my next bag purchase will revolve around.
Pure745
The Four 5 has a string with a cinch thing on it.. i think the Grom has a sleeve.. i would go look at both in person to see what you like better.. also look at the bag with the clubs in it.. the Grom for me was terrible in terms of the club layout.. but the Four5 was much better..

The Titleist Premium bag is better than both.
Improved_Lie
Thanks Pure! I think I'll definitely go with the Titleist Premium. That Titanium Four 5 sure looked schweet with your Burner head covers and those hot S-57s sittin' in it! If the honeymoon ever ends with the MP-57s (highly doubtful, even tho I am an incurable ho), they would be on my short list to go to (along with TM TPs).

Hit 'em straight!!!
Pure745
if you want i can take pics of the premium w/ my Vr's in it..
Improved_Lie
Sure, I want to see how you loaded it up too. The Titleist site says it has a putter well, but I have yet to see that on one. Curious why the S-57s are gone? Are the VRs more forgiving or did you go full blade?
Edit --> Oopps, just went back and read where you got the Blades! Nevermind that one! blush.gif

I ordered the Premium in Black last night online! Hope it gets here by Christmas...

Sorry to hijack the Grom Thread!!!

Do you mind posting a few pic's of your bag. I was looking at the grom, but the Titleist looks nice. Only beef I think is that coming from A Callaway TeraFirma, I'm used to Tee/Pensil/Pen/Score card holders. Also a pocket for a Phone is a must these days.
Thanks.
gsazabi
I've had my 09 Grom for about 3 months now. I LOVE everything about the bag except for one thing; the stand.
Their new "Arc Lite" stand mechanism is very flimsy and it actually broke on me yesterday. I'm thinking about contacting Ogio about it.

Bscary
if the grom is heavy than how is the premium bag better if they weigh the same?
