BRISTOL, Conn. (AP)—All four rounds of the British Open will air live on ESPN starting in 2010.
ESPN and the tournament’s organizer, Royal & Ancient Golf, agreed to an eight-year contract, they announced Thursday. The deal also includes digital coverage and expanded rights for ESPN International.
Same-day highlights will air on ESPN’s broadcast partner, ABC, over the weekend.
British Open coverage had been split between TNT and ABC.
“It is all important to The R&A that we preserve the traditions of The Open Championship while at the same time ensuring that golf fans are able to enjoy modern state-of-the-art coverage of the event,” chief executive Peter Dawson said. “We know just how much ESPN respects The Open’s heritage and we are very excited by their many innovative plans to cover the Championship across the whole media spectrum, both in the United States and internationally.”
Nice To see that we will get some expanded coverage here in the states, but I think I will need to warm up the mute button if Chris Berman is going to be doing the announcing.

I'm hoping Berman stays away from this thing completely, too. This has always been Mike Tirico's gig and I hope it stays that way.

at least we know they will have top of the line HD cameras. And I am sure there will be ABC or NBC staff too, which ever they are affiliated with.

that's great! we get the best HD cameras covering this, online converage, 4 full days.
there are few anouncers that are good anyway if people were to listen to this group; you all whine about this guy and that guy anyway so we know there is no pleasing you all as a whole.
the ONLY guy i don't want coming near this is tony kornheiser, but i have a sickening feeling he is going to squirm his way into this coverage like he did MNF. DAMN HIM!!!!

If you swing like Berman, you have no business announcing golf tournaments. Berman needs to stay away from golf telecasts! Back, Back, Back, oh wait wrong sport.

Show me one person on this board who has EVER said something good about Chris Berman as a golf announcer...if there's one guy who displeases everyone it's Berman.

Berman is great in baseball and football, I know he has passion for the game of golf, but if there is one guy I dont need to hear critiquing a pros swing its Berman well him and Barkley but thats a whole other post.

WoooHooo...props for Bristol, CT (Sorry, had to, as my hometown never gets good press)
As for the announcers, it better be SVP and Tirico....otherwise it'll be a train wreck

Woohoo! CT represent. Mike Tirico is a short little turd, his commentary is uninformative and generic. Don't even get me started with Johnny Miller......or Jimmy Roberts.........
