Hi all,

I am looking to join a golf club in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago. From the website, the Ivanhoe Club in Mundelein looks fantastic. Initiation costs aren't unexpected, but the monthly dues/fees seem to be on the high side.

I am looking to justify the ongoing expense of this to myself and, more importantly, to my wife. Does anyone here have any experience with Ivanhoe, the course, the amenitites, Pool/tennis, social activities, junior programs, and/or membership?

I appreciate the insight. Thanks!

Ivanhoe is one of the privates that I have not played in the area. I have heard it is great but most people in the area like other places a little more.

If anyone has thoughts on other clubs in the area, I'd be happy to hear your thoughts there as well. Looking primarily in the Northwest suburbs.

Thanks!

Ivanhoe is great. 3 spectacular 9 hole offerings: Marsh, Forest and Prairie. I've played at this club twice (my cousin is a member) and I can tell you in full confidence that it is a fantastic club. The service, atmosphere, and quality is unsurpassed. Want your shoes polished after the round as you sip a cold one in the Men's Only Lounge? Done. Want your clubs washed? Done. The caddies were great as was the Caddie Master. Valet parkers were good.........they knew my cousin by name (as did basically the entire staff there).

I don't know a whole lot about the other aspects of the club........just what my cousin told me. He basically uses it to play golf and eat at. He raved about the food there and said he goes to dinner at the club at least once or twice a week during the summer; he's been around the world and knows good food, so believe every word of that. I can only vouch for the clubhouse food and they have one hell of a hotdog (ha, seriously!).

The courses themselves were amazing. It was a very challenging course where even a good shot can leave you with a tough lie (awkward angles). The greens can be extremely difficult......they're very undulated and perfectly maintained. But, great shots will be rewarded. Overall, a great place. If I had the money, I'd definitely join!
