Justin Timberlake signs golf deal with Callaway
Posted at 12:47 AM by David Dusek | Categories: Callaway
Okay, here's another reason to be jealous of Justin Timberlake. Not only did the guy date Britney Spears and Cameron Diaz before moving on to Jessica Biel, but the six-handicapper has now signed a deal with Callaway Golf.

Although the financial terms were not disclosed, according to recent release, Timberlake will play a full complement of Callaway Golf clubs, golf balls and will carry a bag branded with the Callaway’s logo.

“There’s nothing like hitting the ball perfectly—I’m hooked on that feeling," Timberlake said. "With Callaway’s help, I’m hoping to experience that more often."

"We're thrilled to have Justin as a part of the Callaway staff," said George Fellows, president and CEO of Callaway Golf. "He has everything we look for when signing new talent – natural ability, a solid work ethnic and passion for the game."

Not a fan of Mr. Timberlake's music but I think it's cool that he's getting involved with golf. He seems like as much of a golf junkie as anyone here, and he's not ashamed of it either.

edit: I couldn't resist adding that stupid sub-title.

I don't understand how a man could have time to play golf with Ms. Biel waiting at home. He really needs to get his priorities straight... LOL...

It's called a refractory period. Hey-o!!!!

I guess someone has to pick up the slack from Hope and Crosby's departure.

For that alone, I respect what he's trying to do with his tournament. Smart move by Callaway to get some publicity every year when the tournament is held.
bambooluv
I'm happy callaway is sponsoring him, it will keep his intrest a little closer so he can stay more envolved. On a side note I hope his concerts dont start flaunting the chevron symbol all over the place. For example George L. is a great comedian, and I love his tv show but I hated seeing that cameron stuff all over the place, let it be.
mjtoal
In the not too distant past, he would have lost his amateur status for signing a deal like this. No more Pro-Ams then.
rblmp32
Maybe I'm crazy, but wasn't there a big thread about this last week? The general consensus was that he wouldn't lose his am status because he's just a celebrity endorser, not a professional golfer.
sharkhark
odd seeing him with a taylormade iron slung over both his shoulders on cover of last mths golf mag and now it will be cally...but since i play mostly cally....welcome JT!

If JT's into golf history, a rut iron might be an appropriate club to carry...

How long before he's on tour smile.gif

If he's playing to a 6, he'd get dusted by a Hooters Tour pro...

Interesting marketing strategy. Are they trying to attract more teen girls? I wonder if the Golf Digest article jump started this deal. I'm sure "Traditionalists" will not like this move.

He is making big moves all around our sport. He is in the process now of improving a local course here to the tune of $16 million.

Callaway sponsorship with a 6 hcp,
Own your own golf resort,
Cooking eggs with Jessica Biel,

Beats the hell out of a Mastercard commercial!
jebb
Any chance he could link up with other golf luminaries from the music world Alice Cooper and Kenny G???

Throw in Good Ole JD and we could yet see "Mr Fan" top the charts...

He and his parents bought that course didn't they? Seems like I read that in the GD article about him. It doesn't get much better than Jessica Biel, he's a lucky basturd.

They bought the course right before it was to be auctioned off. I think they paid some where in the neighborhood of $800K. I use to play the course frequently back in the 90's, but have not been out there in a year or two. It is situated in a very low lying area and would be get very soggy with too much rain. I am looking forward to checking it out next spring.

interesting pickup for callaway... lets see how this works out.

o yea, and if hes getting payed to play their clubs, why isnt he considered a pro?
El Crab
It probably falls under more of a celebrity endorsement deal. He's not like a pro being paid to play clubs, he's like Jordan being paid to hock McDonalds and Gatorade and Hanes.

But I'd also imagine there's a new rule about retaining amateur status, or concerning entertainers or something. Or maybe he loses his status, but still can host and play in his own event?

I'd be curious to have this all explained.

If he's playing to a 6 he wouldn't make a lot of high school golf teams.

It's good to be JT! enough said.

The same reason top amatuers and college golfers can accept clubs, balls, etc. The rules were changed several years ago to allow this without affecting amatuer status. For what it's worth - after watching him play in the 10 handicap trying to break 100 challenge, and a couple of times in the pro-ams, I have a hard time believing he is even close to a legitimate 6 handicap! The word vanity comes to mind! rolleyes.gif
sshadow2
Hey now....a 6 isn't a 6 at Torrey Pines. And he did break 100 btw, even after some awful shots (which could happen to anyone especially at Torrey).

100% not true.

Doesn't Cally also have Alice Cooper on board with the same type of deal?

Not True???? I help our local HS, the top 4 are all scratch or better.... As am I, and I have been dusted by many a Hooters tour pro, as well as many others.... SO what aren't you seeing as true, besides the fact he is either a 6 because he plays the up tees or is more like a 16

Why so much hate for JT? Anyone who sings/co creates "d*ck in a box" is awesome in my book smile.gif

JT is in Manhattan for the next couple days to meet with the major golf media. Expect to see a variety of pieces about him and Callaway in the coming weeks just about everywhere.

I have been watching Saturday Night Live since the very first show in 1975, and "D@ck in a Box" was one of the funniest moments ever recorded.

Britney (before she became a tramp), Cameron, and now Jessica, his own golf tournament, this kid has got it licked!!

Reminds me of my younger days...........

Jealously.... Probably more about the fact he goes to bed with Jessica Biel then that he signed for Callaway though... If you look at what he has achieved we have a reason to hate him wink.gif
jick
Does this mean Justin Timberlake is now a professional golfer for all intents and purposes because he is receiving monetary compensation?
