It was hard and easy. She wanted the pool,I didnt.
She wanted to go what I call extreme with the build of the yard.
I just said,If you want The pool and this extravagant yard,I Want it to incorporate a putting green. She said Ok.
Which part of the build do you want to know about?

Didnt let the contractor sub it out.We went direct with the green.Sw Greens waasnt an option. I didnt want a sand filled surface.I tried to get Augusta grass and greens to do it,Except they didnt want to travel 2 hrs for the job and didnt come up with a good design. We choose synlawn's non sand filled product.
Putting is fine.Chipping is fine.Pitching isnt that hot.Doesnt react as well as I hope it would, but I knew the only way to get it to do that was to do the sand filled green.I am asking , if we add a touch of sand,if it would help out,but I dont want too much cause the speed might get to quick.Need to get a stimpmeter and test the speed of it.
When I will practice pitching ,I'll just use my chipping net and work on distance control and accuracy.

It looks like sand underneath? When you say "sand filled" do you mean adding sand on top of the surface ?
Also - is it flat or do you have any contours?
Looks great, by the way!

With Sand filled greens , the fibers are about 2 inches tall. The only way to get it to stand up is to add sand. The non sand fill fibers are approx 1/2 tall. My green isnt completely flat,It does have some contours. You can see some of the contours in the pics.

I guess playing in the desert you don't need much practice hitting out of sand!

There is a major difference between the desert and bunker sand.

"There is a major difference between the desert and bunker sand."
I concur...take a few rocks out of your garden...throw it on your concrete driveway...drop a ball in the middle of it all and hit it...=Desert golf...a whole new level of "hardpan"
I think us Az people should lobby the USGA to allow 15 clubs....14 good ones and a "desert" club

A lot of courses (TPC Champions comes to mind) in Scottsdale have bunker sand that is about 1/4 of an inch deep, then hard clay. Not a fan of some courses because of it.

Atleast they have sand. The few courses, ive played since my move-I wouldnt call sand. Its more like hard packed dirt with a ton of rocks to pebbles. Its disgusting

Greg,
Your green is perfect. Great speed, the lines roll true and consistant. The sand fill would make it check more realistic on pitch shots, but you can't get everything you want when you are doing a synthetic green.
In case you guys can't tell, Greg has one portion on the opposite side of the green that has synthetic grass that is about 1 1/2" long that will allow for a tee to be placed in it. Greg put a tee in the ground and I was blasting drivers over his wall into the desert. It was actually quite cool. It is also pretty sweet when it comes to hitting full irons with resistance that is as close to a real fairway as you can get.
It is an awesome setup to say the least and I am truly envious. I got to spend a few hours on putting on it a couple of weeks ago.

Putting green looks amazing! Puts my DIY job to shame.
http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/index.php?sh...;hl=Cherry+hillHow much did the whole putting green/tee area cost you?
I also agree with the chipping thing though, although I threw a thicker layer of sand between the turf and the crushed stone to get shots to stop better.

I agree! Friggin' desert golf can be annoying. Miss it left...in the desert. Miss it right...in the desert. Bleh.

I still love it out there though and can't wait to get back to AZ (Phoenix or Tucson...not sure yet) after I retire from the USAF later this year. My friend works out at the Ritz-Carlton. I can't wait to check that place out.
