Personally, I never wear jeans and until a few years ago, I never saw jeans on the golf course.
My home course is a $98 per round public course. Once the temperature drops it seems 50% of the guys out there are wearing jeans.
It's not against club policy so I don't care...I just find it interesting.

NO. In the UK, a country where yob opinion holds sway, one of the few places left where style, consideration, manners and tradition are practiced is the golf club. However there are now private clubs who will abandon a hundred years of standards in order to get new members, and that included allowing jeans, collerless shirts, trainers etc. Hang on to your club standards-once they are gone you won't get them back.

Chinos/slacks in the summer. Flannel lined khakis in the winter.
Jeans? No.

I have worn jeans on the course a few times, but they just seem..uncomfortable for golf, i like something that ain't so structured.

When the weather is warm, it's kakhi shorts...when it turns cooler, I wear jeans...Outside of work, I like to be comfortable...and jeans seem to be it...maybe it's my generation that grew-up loving jeans...
I guess the thing that always got me more often was t-shirts. I think a nice collared shirt with jeans can look good...but t-shirts just don't do it.

I think it all depends on what kind of course you are going to play, if I am going to play a nicer course I will not wear jeans, but if I am just going to my local 9 hole muni on a sunday afternoon, I will wear jeans.

NAY.... to jeans.. Around here only the lowest public courses allow jeans. At the counrty clubs you must also tuck in your collared golf shirt into your golf pants. One of the really cool things about golf is all the crazy nice equipment, including apparel. Ask yourself are jeans the best I can do ? jeans during a round of golf = low rent... IMHO............ LOL but that is in New York

Never. Never have and never will. Just sticks out like a sore thumb. I saw a guy once wear a Niner's jersey and jeans on the course. WTF??
That's the one thing I've come to appreciate about playing nice golf courses... is that people dress appropriately.

I would never ever wear Jeans any where near any golf related activity. I can't stand seeing jeans, athletic shorts, or non collered shorts at the course. Today the 2 guys behind me were wearing jeans and this was at a nice course. I was surprised they were allowed on.

I love wearing jeans to the first tee and seeing people's reaction after I hit a frozen rope that splits the fairway.
But my preference is for athletic pants, like windbreakers or rain pants.

I'll say nay, but I have done it- did it last week when I was the only person on the muni on a cold, cloudy day. But I didn't like it- won't do it again (had nothing else clean at the time).
I did play a tournament a few weeks ago on a nice course- one of our foursome wore a sweatsuit- I thought that was odd. Surprised they let him on, but I guess the charity doesn't like turning people away...

I think it just depends on the situation, but I've probably worn jeans less than 5 times on the course in my life. Obviously always dress to the rules but I can remember a few times a buddy has called me to go play a quick 9 around twilight when its October-November, February-March and the weather is cold and I might wear jeans if its last minute. But I would say they're a definite no-no unless its that situation. These were also courses that are muni's where dress code isn't taken very seriously.

I want to know what kind of khakis people are buying if their jeans are more comfortable.
I guess if a course allows them, I can't pass judgement on someone wearing jeans. But I'll choose to wear a decent pair of pants no matter where I play.

My home course is pretty low key, I don't have a problem wearing jeans there if it's cold. Most the time I'm a khaki shorts guy though when it's nice enough. If I ever go somewhere different though, I dress appropriately (95% of the time not jeans).
I accidentally wore jeans as a guest to a private course once (Walloon Lake Country Club for those who might know), oh boy...big mistake. I've never felt so dumb in my life. I just couldn't believe I even forgot about it in the first place. We were going down the first hole and a manager come out on the course and was like "excuse me sir, you do know that denim is not allowed correct?". He just said to remember it for next time and let us continue thankfully.

I think it's strange that people think jeans are more comfortable than chinos/dress pants/khakis/golf pants/etc.. I only own one pair of jeans- I HATE 'EM!
I keep the following items in my right pocket and I can't see them fitting w/ jeans:
~5 tees
-1 ball
-2 plastic ball markers
-1 quarter
-1 dime
-1 pivot tool
I think it looks a little tacky when people wear jeans on the course but I don't think any less of the person. And it certainly doesn't bug me in the least (as long as the club is ok w/ it).

do you guys just not like wearing jeans?
I prefer to golf in what I prefer to wear in general when given the option, which is jeans (of course if there's a dress code I'll follow it, although a dress code will make me less likely to play there vs a course that doesn't have a dress code)
do you jean disliking golfers just not like jeans, or is there some sort of unwritten rule lost on this 30 year old baffoon :-)

I wear Jeans a fair bit, especially on the weekends when I am out and about and the weather is cool. So I have no problem with Jeans, there is just a time and place for everything and golf should never ever be played in Jeans. There is no way my jeans are more comfortable than khakis though, especially doing something semi-athletic.
My dad's course which is private won't even allow you to wear them onto the premises.

I wear jeans to the local muni from fall to spring. Dress slacks to the nicer courses. During the summer I'll sport a decent pair of shorts most often when I play.
A few years ago while on a trip down south I stopped by Kenny Perry's course in Franklin, Ky. for a quick 18 while driving by. The guy at the pro shop (not Kenny) paired me up with a guy in full hunters camo, a little face paint and all. The guy went out for a little archery in the morning and decided to hit the course on his way home.
That was a first for me. But believe it or not that good ol' boy and I had a great round that day and if I remember correctly he finished a stroke or two over and I played about the same.

I did see a guy on the range yesterday with a pair on. The loose unstructured kind, with a pair of black golf shoes. Didn't look half bad as far as that sort of thing goes. But yeah, no jeans for me on the course or range.

No, not ever. I did wear a T-Shirt to the range once. That was about it for me. Jeans and golf just don't mix. Plus they are more restricting to the swing I'd imagine.

No jeans on a course for me, but a couple of the local muni's allow them. I'll wear them to the range if I go at lunch or after work when it gets cooler outside, because that is what I wear at work.

Seriously most of the winter at my club its muddy and nasty and I wear jeans all the time so does most everyone else
Then again I work daily in jeans and a golf shirt
Just saying hey I got jean shorts too I wear.
Honestly I have worked at clubs where it would not be cool, but I am right now a member at redneck country club

Jeans don't just look bad on the golf course, they don't insulate properly, aren't water resistant and restrict your motion. Remember kids - cotton kills.
I hate to sound like a jerk, but I always have a negative first impression of someone that I meet on the golf course that is wearing jeans. Show some respect for yourself. That's just the way it is...

I most certainly wear jeans on courses that allow casual attire, which my home course is fine with.
A collared shirt with leam demin in good repair is comfortable and does not detract from anything, IMHO.
The pro wears them at times, too--so blah to those who say you can't.
