Okay, I've had the same bag for about two seasons and I just bought a Diamana Blue -which is a big purchase for me - first time spending that much on a shaft, so it's special and I'm not a money bags type. I've played about 10 times and I tend to walk as much as possible. I noticed a wear mark starting to appear about 4-5 inches below the headcover - so about 10-13 inches down from the head. I placed a clear piece of packaging tape to protect the shaft and wear the tape- which could be replaced. Well, the problem must be bigger than I thought because after 2.5 rounds two layers of tuff packaging tape was worn through to the shaft. I've checked the bag - still looks/feels new- still padded and everything. I've since completely changed the way my clubs are arranged to see it that will help, but guys on here are so knowledgable I figured I'd ask the WRX'er's. Trying not to get a new bag if possible.

Just get some sock headcovers like Jan Craig. Make sure they are long enough to protect the shaft from the bag.

What kind of bag is it?
RAIM MAN
You put tape on your shaft?

Anyway, I never understood the trend away from longneck headcovers. Never liked getting a club that didn't have a longneck headcover. But buying one should take care of your problem.

I may be wrong here, but as far as I know Staff Professionals at country clubs or other facilities do not receive a paycheck from the OEM to play the equipment they are given.

Not to get on you too much here, but BDLz, why keep questioning jwf? He is inside the golf industry, he just may happen to know a little bit about what goes on inside of it wink.gif

It's nice that jwf is willing to put info out there for the general public, why keep questioning and somewhat disagreeing / arguing with every point he makes? One of the reasons why I don't post as much as I used to...........

If I want to gain knowledge of what goes on in a particular industry, I will go to someone in that industry to gain that knowledge, not sit there and argue with them when they try to educate.

I don't know that it's a headcover problem--something's wrong with the bag if you ask me. I've got a zippered headcover I've use for years and have never had a problem like the OP is describing...

Pick up a RocketTour headcover for your driver. Its long enought that it will protect your club. Plus, they look awesome!

I have a Titleist 907D2 w/ the short zippered headcover and was having a simular problem. I went to wal-mart
and got a pack of long knee length black athletic style socks. I put a sock on the driver head then on goes
the titleist headcover, It looks good and not noticeable at all. It just looks like an extension of the headcover
but most importantly, it works! Best of all it only cost me $4.00 for a 2 pack of black socks. This should solve your
problem because the sock covers down the shaft about 6-8 inches inside the golf bag. just an idea, worked for me.

Hi -

I do a couple of things for clubs:

1. Get some tennis racquet head tape from a sports store. It is clear and tough and will last a long time.
2. I have a staff bag. For my graphite shafted driver, I bought a piece of foam pipe insulation tube and cut it to the bag length.

I'm developing the same problem, my solution is to get a new bag...and maybe some new shafts or clubs to replace the 'chew' mark on the shaft.

I'm gonna use any excuse to get new clubs.
