Does anyone have any experience with walking on Bethpage Black as a single. I normally would just get there in the middle of the night, but I don't want to play in the early morning. I was hoping to tee off around 10:30. Does anyone have an idea of what time I should get there to get out between 10 - 12? Thanks

if you're talking about during the week, i don't think you'll have much of a problem as a single. most likely, you'll still need to get there no later than 8 i would say though. on the weekend, i really have no idea as i haven't tried walking on on the weekend.

Thanks for the input. I'll give it a try tomorrow.

i'd get there no later than 8AM if you want to tee off around 10:30. last time i walked on as a single on a weekday, i arrived at 9:15 and got out at 11:51.

You might want to reconsider. The greens were aerated last week and they are still bumpy and sandy.

The reservation system says that the black was aerated on September 29. Do you know first hand the greens are bumpy and sandy? Anyone else? Thanks

Apparently it was an "unscheduled" aeration, although it was the small plugs. I wonder if the USGA might be taking some control over the course.

I played there last Thursday and the greens were unputtable. Each green had a lot of sand on them. By a lot, i mean a full "layer" of sand on every green so you had no idea of if the ball would stop or release.

And, if you are then considering the Red as a result of the Black being aerated, their greens were fully aerated (large plugs) last Tuesday and Wednesday.

Tough decision now. Thanks for giving me a heads up. If anyone played it this week and has an update i would greatly appreciate it.

Someone on that "other" site played it yesterday and wrote "Greens are ventilated a week or two ago..sandy and bumpy..ok at best"

i played last week (wed) and every green had a full layer of top dress. shots didn't bite and putts skidded a lot. without a whole lot of rain in the last week, i doubt they're much better.

(Sorry for the not so helpful report)
Everything worked out well for me. I got there around 8 and because of the two hour frost delay, everyone was standing outside the building waiting to be called. I didn't have a number and was asking around if I should go get one. A couple of minutes later, a guy I asked what was going on, handed me his tickets (he was leaving). I got a 9:51 tee time (2 hour delay-so it would have been 11.51). I reported to the starter early to just confirm it was a two hour delay - he told me that I would be out before my tee time - I got out at about 11. Long story short- I have no idea what time you should get there, but I would err on the early side.

The greens were still pretty bumpy and sandy, but they were definitely playable.

I am planning on playing as a Single this week. I called and talked to the pro. He said it shouldn't be a problem getting off with the cold weather.
