I frequent a range which has a fairly large number of Asians as customers. More times than I can count I would be at the range with 2 or 3 other people (BIG range, about 80 stalls in total), where the 3 or 4 of us would be spread out, and another customer would come up and park it RIGHT next to me. They would ALWAYS be Asian. I notice it more in the last month because not as many people are at the range so we're all spread out, but it's happened EVERY time I've been there (6 or 7 times).

I mean, I don't care, but I just found it an interesting social observation.

So, is this a cultural thing?

In their minds, you don't exist. You occupy your mat and they occupy theirs. Spacing isn't something that they consciously think about. I'm not saying that it's rude because I am Asian and I know that a lot of them (not all, for you pc people) think that way. Kind of like in Asian culture, when you speak to someone, you could come off as rude if you stare them straight in the eyes.

Interesting. Didn't know about looking into someone's eyes as being rude. Completely opposite of Western culture.

We Americans cherish our personal space. Other cultures don't work that way. When I was in London I found that if 3 people are at a table for 4 in a pub, you sitting with them is something that won't make them blink.

In other words, it's you!!!! tongue.gif

haha, this makes me think of a game that was going around the internet for while. there are a set of 4 urinals and guys at 0,1,2 or 3 of them. You have to pick the most socially appropriate one to go to. it was kind of funny.
