it looks just like any other one, why dont the get a little creative
you know, a few years ago i kinda felt the same way about all the anser knock-offs(maybe not as intensely as most though)...until i actually started to look for one.
obviously, my first thought was to go look for an original ping anser/anser 2. love the look, but feel/sound is way too harsh and way too light even at 35", and i play my putters at 33". hated the feel of the manganese bronze, and didn't think the feel of the becu was anything to write home about either, and the feel was still too light.
next step was to get a vons 398. nice and heavy, soft feel. played it for 2 seasons, but could never get used to the blocky look at address, and for some reason, couldn't get a good roll with it.
next up was a, "oh heavens no!", scotty studio style np2 33/350. nice look, good feel. but after a while, even this set up just a bit too blocky to me and the feel kinda felt too synthetically soft and the studio stainless always felt a bit harsh to me.
moving on, i went with a byron 007. good weight, solid feel, but ultimately, the putter just kinda had a "smallish" look to it, and i could never get confident with it. much of it was in my head, but as many of us know, once a negative train of thought gets into your head when putting, it will not turn out well.
finally, i found a tour bettinardi heavy head bb1 in black thunder finish, 360g solid, but not too soft feel. nearly perfect. my only minor complaint, and nowhere near enough to kick it out of my bag, is that the topline is just a tad thick. it's only been one season, but i've been putting the best i ever have with it. that's also taking into account several high moi putters i went through in that same span.
even though i'm pretty satisfied, i'm still looking for an anser 2 style putter just to give myself a different look when i get into a funk, which hasn't been nearly as often with the bb1.
all this to say, i'm so glad that there are so many different companies making an anser-style putter out there, because although the original is such a great design, the original is not necessarily for everyone. variety is a
good thing folks!
edit: forgot to add the custom slighter portland to that mix in between the byron and bettinardi. the slighter had kind of an odd feel to it, and never seemed to look right to me at address, something with the neck gave me kind of an awkward look. well made putter, but still not quite "right".
