Played yesterday and athough the breens were quite firm I plugged an 8 iron coming into the 16th green. No big deal as it was a casual round but had it been a tournament what is the proper way to handle this? Being that I was on the green I could mark the ball but in the course of repairing the ball mark the ball mark would be in the way or at least be moved.

You have to place the ball on the repaired pitch mark and putt from there.

Is that what you're asking?

No, how do I repair it if the ball mark is in the way?

Move the marker. You may use the same procedure as when you are moving your marker out of someone else's line.
