BEND OF THE RIVER GC
Yesterday I played Birdsfoot Golf Course in Freeport, PA. Birdsfoot is located about 40 minute Northeast from Pittsburgh. The course was "fairly" wide-open with a few tight holes. About the only things I can say that I disliked about this course was the cart paths were TERRIBLE (pave them properly or make them just dirt) and the sand in the traps was seemingly dirt, rather than real sand and the "pro shop" where you wait to pay was really only large enough for 2 people besides the cash register person. $59 with cart on a Sunday morning, the weather was iffy, but the rain held off and we got all 18 in. The greens very very nice, pretty speedy for being wet from the previous evening's rain. Birdsfoot was designed by Clark, Ault and Associates. I'll keep it short for now, enjoy a few pics....

That par 3 with the grass bunkers looks crazy. Kind of "golf ball-ish"..

Course doesn't look bad though, but what's the problems with the cart paths? Location maybe?

They had asphalt cart paths that were in terrible disrepair that made driving on the paths a real nightmare. It looked (and felt) terrible.

That par 3 was called "Pot Luck". The toughest par three there was #9 with a 190 forced carry, 215-225 to the flag depending on pin location, (from the black/gold tees) that I had a stellar 7 on. Ouch.

Thanks for the review! I have heard about this course.

That par 3 does look sick. Looks as if one of the holes has a split Fairway. Looking forward to the play by play.

Yes the 18 th hole has something that resembles a split fairway ,as for the rest of the course i am in agreement with the cart paths they are terrible , but over all the layout is good and it's in good condition , i wish they would take the rocks out of the sand traps , they do offer online specials and you can get coupon books for discounted rates , not to be devil's advocate but it's a good course but i dont necesarrily agree it's one of the best public courses in Pa , it might not even be one of the best public courses in Pittsburgh

The 18th has a split fairway, but not the one you think. That is 2 different holes.

I was only going by what I read and another golf course owner in PA told me. That is was #1. Yes, it was a good course, and definitely worth playing if in the area. There doesn't really appear to be a lot of public golf offerings arounf Pittsburgh though. We tried to play Links Sping Church but they had an outing...

I live 5 minutes from that course. It is a nicely designed course, 18th hole is alittle weird but challanging. It is a course were the wind blows all the time up there, so it makes it seem alittle longer then it is. that 9th hole is a tough one with that carry. The cart paths are horrible, i had a freind that worked there that told me they are gong to start to pave them a little each year till they are done. Then they would work on a clubhouse that is more then a house, it is pretty shabby for a so called up scale public course. All in all it is a very nice course, but best in Pa i dont think so, top 10 in the Pittsburgh area possible.

If you get a chance it is worth playing, i go there a couple times a year but not to much cause of the price tag.
