hey all: I know that there's alot of money at stake, but i think we're in for a bit of a letdown with this years tour championship. For one vijah has already wrapped up the fed-ex cup title barring something that doesn't let him finish all 72 holes. Also some players are comming off a huge and emotional ryder cup so how motivated and how much will they have left "in the tank" so to speak to compete this week is anyones guess. Just my thoughts love to have everyone elese's thoughts as well. Thanks

I am looking forward to going to the event. If anything just to see what these guys do.

The FedEx Cup has cheapened the PGA Tour- IMO.

hey all: I think the pga tour is trying to do something to make the tour championship mean something to the overall out come of all the major awards on tour, but with so many of them wrapped up before then it's been hard to do. Also just throwing more money at the players to get us viewers to watch is likely not enough even though i'll watch since i'm a golf nut. Thanks

I think you're probably right. I guess it depends on how tired the players are after the Ryder. But the rest of the players- a lot of them took the two weeks off, some played at the Viking.
I think the majority should be well rested. Since VJ already has won the $10M, the pressure is off most players- they can't win it anyway. Hopefully, we'll get some good golf.
Although, aren't some playing for the tour card next year? You could see an interesting weekend.

I think everyone in the top 30 FedEx points is well within getting their tour card ; )
And only Ken Duke played at the Viking....guess he wanted to stay sharp, or has no social life.
I would venture to say Finchem has done a pretty good job of making the Tour Championship a non-event.
Go VJ.

Greetings ....
What would save the Tour Championship this year is if the following players are among the Top 10 leaders going into Sunday's final round ..
Justin Leonard, Trevor Immelman
Jim Furyk, Stewart Cink
Vijay Singh, Mike Weir
Camilo Villegas, Hunter Mahan
Kenny Perry, Phil Mickelson
Anthony Kim, Sergio Garcia

I think that would be incredible
I do not understand the bad mouthing of the Fed Ex and the commisioner I think there is work to do but grant you this its a lot more exciting to the players trying to get in it than it is to the fans.
I think over the next few years with a little tweaking it will become very signiciant.

I just had to some tweaking to my previous post - Boo Weekley is NOT in the Tour Championship field - RATS!!! (he was 33rd in Fed-X points)

Pretty good chance of that happening given you just named over 1/3 of the field. Although I don't know if they "save" the tour championship. Without some serious changes to the format, it's going to be like this following the Ryder Cup every two years.

It would be awesome if Anthony Kim and Sergio Garcia were in the final pairing on Sunday and battling it out!!!

The only way to make it mean something again is to put the prize on the line and available to anyone in the tournament. In other words...top 32 players in a match play event. Make it an actual tournament/playoff to end the season...not just another event.
All major sports, save NASCAR which the FedEx Cup is modeled after, finish with actual playoffs. Teams playing against teams to reach the World Series/Super Bowl/NBA Finals.
This is what the Tour Championship needs to become.

I kind of like how the LPGA is doing it with the Samsung - multiple cuts. Wipe out the points for the Tour Championship, and cut each day. Let the guys break their neck getting enough points to qualify for the playoffs, reset the points with a little favor towards those who played well all year, but when you get to the final tournament, no more points, you have to play your way into the next day with a final 8 on the last day playing for $10M. And why not play the final 8 as two foursomes? It seems to me you would get a more go for broke style in a foursome than a twosome.
