I can see Cink, Leonard, or possibly Perry. Maybe Mahan or some of the other younger guys eventually. Don't really see Boo, JB, Phil, or Stricker. For that matter, I doubt Tiger would ever have an interest (not on the the team, I know, but obviously qualified).

Seems it's alot different now than in past generations in regards to the US, but the Euro's haven't changed much. Or is it just my perception?

Furyk for sure.

I don't think Cink or Perry have a chance. The PGA only picks players with a major championship win, and while Perry might be a great captain, he doesn't have a major....so he's out unless he wins one within the next two years or so.

Phil will probably get offered the job because they generally prefer the captain to be a PGA Championship winner, and there aren't a whole lot of American major champions out there in his age group. Whether he accepts is a different story.

Mickelson's a lock to be a captain. Over 30 Tour wins and multiple majors including a PGA Championship. Do some checking, there aren't many of those around.

He'll accept..........it's almost as great an honor as winning a major.

Not only majors, they typically like to choose guys that have won the PGA. There are exceptions, but that's one of the tie breakers so to speak.

Well, I can see Phil being captain on down the road and possibly even Justin Leonard. I know Tiger doesn't have much interest in the event, but something makes me think he will be captain on down the line.

Wouldn't be interesting to see a Mickleson or Woods vs. Garcia?

I forgot to mention Furyk. I see him as a definite.

I don't see it being Phil or Tiger unless endorsements are tied to it. Not that both haven't earned it, but I just don't see it. Maybe I'm off-base.

I guess the age group I'm thinking of is that early 30's to early 40's group. From a US standpoint, outside of Tiger and Phil, there's not alot to choose from.

I just thought the group this past weekend was pretty fun to watch. I guess other groups have been as well, but with losing 5 of 6 before this year, it makes it where there hasn't been alot of success for almost a generation of American golfers.

I think DL III would make a good captain. He's had good Cup experience, well liked and respected and is a great champion. He's kinda passive aggressive and can get charged up at the right times. Always been a big fan of DLIII>

I definately agree with Furyk, Mickelson, and Leonard.

Maybe if we are lucky Boo Weekley in the future. slow_en.gif

I think you will see Couples, DL III, Furyk and Phil as captains in the not to distant future...

As for a particular TW - I wouldn't be surprised if we see a renewed interest in the event in the future - after seeing what seemingly was a grand time had by his fellow Americans.

I for one would like to see the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup go to a once every 3 year rotation - just so that there is an off year for the Players - I could see where if you are one of the top players who makes the team every year whether it be the Ryder Cup or the Presidents Cup that it could start to lose its luster as it isn't as special as it is to the Europeans who get the team event once every two years as opposed to once a year...

And before I get flamed by all of the readers - yes I know that the players take playing in both events with a great sense of pride and emotional involvement... but I am just saying that there is a lot of pressure on those elite players to amp it up once a year...

Phil, Furyk, and Tiger. I hope the next Capt will be Pavin or DLIII. I hate it Larry Nelson always gets overlooked but I think he will never get it.

Possibly a Captain David Toms sometime in the future?

He did win a PGA Championship and an Accenture Match Play...

P.S.

There still hasn't been a better reaction to a heckler in the crowd that this one:

True, but in the future they will likely have to go away from that, because there aren't a whole lot of suitable options among PGA Championship winners. I'd say Tiger and Phil for sure. I'd think DL3 will get one as well. I guess they could give it to David Toms....but beyond him there really isn't anyone else. No way guys like Beem, Brooks, Micheel, Sluman, Tway etc get it. They'll stay as far away as they can from John Daly, so he's out too.

The only other PGA winners out there that would deserve the spot would be Larry Nelson and Hubert Green. But they're both outside the age group the PGA of America wants.

I remember watching that and almost falling on the floor laughing so hard. You just don't see that every day in golf.

David would make a great captain in the upcoming years.

I see other names being brought up, but that's okay. I really meant of this 12 and I think that the fact that other guys keep getting mentioned kind of illustrates what I thought. To me, the only guy who I think would be captain and enjoying doing so, is Furyk. Mickleson will probably be a captain, but I don't know that he would really want too. I'm not trying to slight Phil with that comment, but it just doesn't seem to fit his personality the same as it would fit Furyk.

As others mentioned, I also think that Love, Pavin, and others could and will make great champions. I'm glad someone brought up all the other recent winners of the PGA. Nothing against those guys, but it's not that impressive of a group.

Furyk would probably be a great captain. I think Mickleson would actually be OK. I can also picture Anthony Kim winning a lot of tournaments and becoming a captain someday.

Kind of slim pickings from this present group I think.

Furyk and Leonard have only a remote chance. They're not in the "chosen" group of higher-ups that rule the PGA of America. The PGA of America likes to select guys under 50 and from a pool of their favorites, so that only leaves Furyk or Leonard a chance to land as captain in about 4 or 5 spots. Couples, DL III and Philly Mick already have the next 3 locked. The PGA of America big daddies love all 3 of them. Furyk is viewed by the PGA of A as another Larry Nelson -- good golfer, not a leader. Leonard would have an outside shot after Philly Mick, but only if Tiger turned it down. And, by then, there could be others competing with Justin for the job.
