Topic says it all, I have played the Ocean Course at Wild Dunes before. Thinking about Patriots Point maybe? Going to be there Nov. 7th - 11th, anyone got the hookup somewhere? smile.gif

I have a close cousin whos a member at Daniel Island great club, only thing is you have to be "invited" by the head pro if you are an unaccompanied guest. Are you a member anywhere, because they will do a reciprocal with other private clubs. Guest Fees are $125-175 I believe.

But there are great places to play all over Chucktown, but even better food. Try Hymans on Meeting Street, Charleston Grille on King Street. If you need any recommendations for restaurants just PM me.

Thanks for the tip, I dropped my membership at the local club a couple years back so no joy there. Hymans is a must I always look forward to eating there. Never tried Charleston Grille before, may have to check it out. smile.gif

Lived there for 10 years during and after dental school. Here's my opinion:

Best places to play(public):(in order from best to worst)-Kiawah Island-Ocean Course, Osprey, Turtle
-Rivertowne
-Wild Dunes Harbor Course
-Patriot's Point
-Stono Ferry
-Dunes West
-Coosaw Creek

(private):
-Briar Creek
-Kiawah Island-Cassique, River Course
-Bull's Bay
-Daniel Island courses
-Wild Dunes Ocean Course(not nearly as nice as Kiawah's)

Places to eat:
-Don't go to Hyman's! Way overrrated, and you'll probably have to wait a while for mediocre seafood
-Peninsula Grill
-High Cotton
-Magnolia's
-Tristan
-Rue de Jean
-Blossoms
-McCrady's
-Mimi's on Harborview Road(best breakfast ever!!)
-Sermet's
-Andolini's Pizza
-Meritage
-Groucho's
(last five are casual)

Cool bars:
Meritage
Rooftop at Vendue
Market Pavillion rooftop
The Blind Tiger
King Street Station
Henry's
Red's

Thanks for the detailed post. I wasn't aware that the Ocean Course at Wild Dunes was private, or does that maybe mean you can only play it if you're staying at the resort (which I was back in '05 when I played it). Any idea the cost to play the Ocean Course at Kiawah? I'm sure it's pricey, but can only find pricing to play as a package with other courses and staying there to boot. Perhaps that's the only way you can get on ala TPC Sawgrass. I think you're the first to say that they don't like Hymens, but having access to all the great Charleston area restaurants would make that an educated opinion I guess. Personally I love the place for fried seafood. smile.gif Thanks again!

Don't get me wrong, Hyman's is good seafood. But, there are much better places to eat seafood and all other food in Charleston. Hyman's is what we call a "tourist trap." You can go to the Boathouse and get seafood just as good, and not wait.

The Ocean Course at Kiawah will cost you. I'm not exactly sure because I've never payed the 10 times I've played there. I was good friends with a caddie there who would get us on when he wanted to play a round. I'm guessing you're going to spend somewhere between $185-$250. I would recommend the public Kiawah Courses above all others in the public category. It's just so serene, and it's not out of the ordinary to see a 12 foot alligator, ospreys diving and catching fish in the ponds, or deer running down the fairway. Plus, the courses are great, very well manicured, and fun. Bring alot of balls, though, because there is alot of trouble, esp. if you've never played there and don't know the course.

Thanks again, will definitely make it to the Boathouse. I'm going to seriously look into the Ocean course, but if it's much over $250 I don't think I can do it. The place looks stunning though. smile.gif

I keep referring to the Ocean course at Wild Dunes...it's the Links Course actually. My mistakes.
