Just got back from a week in Montana, Idaho and Wyoming. Amazing stuff for a guy that has lived his entire life in SOuthern California. I thought everybody was supposed to be an a55hole and that water and the sky were both brown. Imagine my surprise. Anyway, here are a couple of pics. The ones where I am in the black shirt are from Old Works in Anaconda, Montana. Somehow a town in the middle of nowhere (population 9,000) managed to get Jack to design a course there. It is built on an old copper mining site and the bunkers are black slag, which is a byproduct of copper smelting. Thanks to Kamtile for letting me know about this place. Spectacular. Check out the sky, it looks like the intro to The Simpsons. Unreal.

The others are from Teton Springs in Victor, Idaho and Jackson Golf and Tennis Club in Jackson, Wyoming. Teton Springs looked like we were the 1st ones to play there and has super fast and hard greens. Tough stuff. Jackson G&T was nearly 6900 yards from the WHITE tees! Ouch.

I was just awestruck at these places. We have mountains in SoCal, but not like this. If any of you guys get the chance to go out that way, do it.

Cool pics, how does the ball react out of those bunkers? Can you spin the ball the same out of those bunkers?

great pics, remind me a bit of the Tahoe area where you can take a few runs in the morning, then head into the valley for 18 holes.

those bunkers are great!

thanks for the pics

Why would one think that Montana, Idaho and Wyoming would be full of a$$holes? dntknw.gif

I think he meant living in SoCal would make one think that everyone is like that.

Right. It was a joke. I meant that living in Socal forever I assumed everybody everywhere else was like us, ie, a55holes. I just meant that the people we met everywhere we went were incredibly friendly.

As for the black slag, it is pretty much just like sand. It is heavier though, more dense, if that makes sense. The ball doesn't plug in it at all and always sits on top so you always have a decent lie. You just have to take less sand w/ the shot or you'll leave it in the bunker. Other than that it is pretty similar.

nice pics! i am from texas where the ground is flat so i'm not used to playing golf with mountains in the background. i recently took a trip to arizona and utah and there were mountains everywhere. sadly, i did not have my golf clubs with me nor did i have time to play golf anyway. the scenery sure was amazing though.
